Yeah - I was playing with it - folding SMP + GPU2, ripping CDs, listening to music, and sorting through my iTunes duplicates - and it froze on me. Figures. 72% done on SMP. Tried qfix after rebooting when SMP didn't pick up at the 72% level, so I might have lost all those points. Well - I'll take a partial victory; it's better than anything else accomplished so far. If I'd just left it alone it'd likely be fine. I'll play a bit more tonight then try to keep hands off t tomorrw.

I've been reading a bit about it and it seems that quads above 400 can really benefit from GTL tweaking.

No, that's right - GPU2 client

I guess I just always bump it up and figured most peeps did the same but I noticed in you Screening it was still at default 100. So if you haven't bumped it give it a try. It works for me and may solve your trouble.
I had originally (first boot or so) put the PCIE at 102 or 103 but I couldn't get my system to recognize my TV card. Dropping it back to 100 solved that problem. I'll look into changing the PCIE back up a few nudges. Thanks!

I was wondering if you saw the post...
Hmmm that's interesting. I'm assuming at this point your TV tuner is PCIe. That's not good news. I've been looking at Some PCIe Tuners my self to stick in my 780i, right now I use an OnAirGT usb tuner for HDTV. It's really for mobil use but works excellent with the desk top as well. Maybe I'll have to re-think this. I just figured out a few days ago that 16x slots are backwards compatible with 1x, 4x an 8x PCIe components.

I've had pci tuners and raised the PCIe bus frequency with no ill effect. So it must be limited to PCIe devices. In any case I can highly recommend the OnAirGT if that helps solve your problems.

Well, I'm not gonna be home for a week, so I've dialed the OC back to about 3.4Mhz - hopefully will be 100% stable so the SMP and GPU2 clients will run and rack up some points with no hanging while I'm gone. I'll look to start in again with the OC in early December. With all the helpful advice I'm getting I really think I can get a 3.825Mhz (+ possibly higher?) OC stable.

Edit = Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Of course nothing went as planned - power outage at the house less than 24 hours after we left so I lost five days' worth of folding. *sigh*

Feeling like chucking the whole thing - I can't get the damn thing stable even at default bios settings.

Ran 7 hours Prime blend at 3.4Mhz, then failed later in the day folding.
Ran 3.95X Memtest OK while GPU folding, then later failed after about 20 hours.
Yanked the OCZs and put in old G.Skills AND tried pencil mod (I think I did it correctly but I can't be sure). Tried SMP and GPU at 3.4 w/some different settings but it froze shortly afterwards.

This is really getting me down. Maybe I was spoiled with the first OC going so easy. Is the 780i SLI known for being finicky?

Yes, the 780i can be finicky.

That said, you can know if your pencil mod works with a multimeter or under Windows.

Go back to default, take baby steps. You're probably missing out on something easy to forget. Don't shoot for 3.4GHz just yet.

Good advice, as always Polo.

I feel a tiny bit better after a night's sleep. It's just so frustrating! I had it semi-stable at 3.8 and now I'm having trouble even at lower clocks. I just can't figure out what's causing the freezing.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have a favorite board (775/DDR2) that's relatively less touchy than the 780i?

If I can't fix this in the next month or so I'm either going to beat it with a baseball bat or change boards.
Edit - or both!
