| The time has come for Revenge of the Nerds!
| Matt Page (Prolific_One) took over as our cooler reviewer late last year, which is why you see a discrepancy in numbers from earlier to more recent temp recordings. To present an accurate comparison, Matt had to re-test previously reviewed coolers on his testbed, rather than recycle temp recordings that were taken on a different setup with different ambient temps. | ||||||||||||||

| HL's Technomancer
| The GeminII is a beast of a cooler, but its a pain to get in as well. The Big Typhoon I have no experience with, but from what I've seen and heard it does pretty well. The V1 is not the best cooler, but it's about the best we can recommend that uses the standard push-pins. The back plated ones themselves aren't much more of a hassle, I regularly swap out my waterblock with a Thermalright Ultima-90 for testing, and it maybe takes an extra 5 minutes or so. For designs like the Ultima, CNP9700, and Nirvana, screwing them into a backplate actually gives you a greater range of control as you can tighten the cooler as you see fit for a better contact then with push-pins. But for ease of installation and removal (as well as price-to-performance), I'd have to say the Arctic Freezer 7 for Duals and the TT V1 for Quads are your best bets. | ||||||||||||||

| Temps shown for "High" are when the fan is at High speed. "Low" ,is for low fan speed. The temps you should be concerned with are the Load temps . A backplate is a small solid metal or plastic plate that goes behind the motherboard. The cooler attaches to this plate greatly increasing the available clamping force between the cpu and cooler. backplates also allow for a heavier than specified cooler to be mounted without cracking the motherboard.
