| Ok, lets forget about major Upgrading as for now.. not to mention the more agresive OC will have to make me buy a good cooler for my core, as that I still using my stocks fan for now.... I have just tried to start playing with my BIOS, and thinking of changing the bus speed settings, but my Gigabyte P31 Bios confuses me as that shows me a different things from what have been discussed in here... in My Bios I cant find anywhere says something about FSB setting, (well I can find FSB voltage is set to "manual" but I figured I won't need that for now until I cant boot to windows) Here's what I got CPU Clock Ratio [9x] CPU Host Control [Disable] -> I think I need to make this in "Enable" mode? CPU Host Frequency MHz [133] -> is this what similiar to FSB setting that has been discussed in this forum or is this what I'm looking for to change in order to speed up my core? as it shows now 133x9 = 1.20Ghz and I'm confused here where My FSB should be 266Mhz, and my Q6600 suposedly shows 2.40Ghz which what I always seen in my CPU-Z but I cant find anywhere showing that 266 Mhz as well as 2.40Ghz thing in my Bios, what did I do wrong here? am I missing something? Thanks guys... Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz FSB Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L 512MB GeForce 7300 GT 2x2GB Kingston PC2-5300 KVR667D2N5/2G ![]() | ||||||||||||||

| never mind... as I am a complete idiot... as I changed CPU Host Control into enable, it starts from it's own starting default frequency where it's 133, if I disable it, it's automatically shows @ 266 now when I enable it, I will just have to put a new number such as I put 271 Mhz 271x9 gives me 2.439Ghz as my new core now that I have new questions... as I changed the CPU host control into "enable" setting... I have two things blinking in reds.... Performance Enchanced (originally set to "Turbo") should I change this into "standard"? as the right side info says in red "Warning: after overclocking, standard could improve system stability" so should I change to standard? or do you guys who have the same Mobo with me changed this to standard? or we can still keep Turbo and get a stabil PC still? and the 2nd blinking in red is: "System Voltage NOt Optimize" meaning should I changed my: System Voltage Control from originally [Manual] into [Auto] ? as the right side info says in red "Warning: voltages may be raised for optimizing overclock"! what you guys usually do with this... I'm just so worried lookingt those blinking in reds.... ![]() Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz FSB Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L 512MB GeForce 7300 GT 2x2GB Kingston PC2-5300 KVR667D2N5/2G ![]() | ||||||||||||||

| Those two warnings are a bit annoying, it does it on my gigabyte board aswell. if you keep preformance enhanced on for now it should be all right, but if its unstable in windows turn it off before boosting your voltage to see if it helps. Second the 'system voltage not Optimized', just ignore this, dont change it to auto, I dont trust the mobo to change voltages like that automaticly. In the end they are just to warn inexperenced people away from damaging there components, just ignore them | ||||||||||||||

| Here's what I got now.... and I'm trying to start stressing to see if its stable... as I have Stock's Fan and worry about iti if I go to far... ![]() ![]() ![]() http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/8...ockedpcfs8.jpg Do I really have to use 2 windows of SP2004 simultaneously? cuz, that what it says when I'm running the Orthos Stress Prime Recommended by HL OC guide ![]() http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/9...ckedpc2va0.jpg Sorry I don't know how to resize my picture to smaller pic Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz FSB Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L 512MB GeForce 7300 GT 2x2GB Kingston PC2-5300 KVR667D2N5/2G ![]() Last edited by elite; March 26th, 2008 at 03:00. | ||||||||||||||

![]() Still running stress.. so far looks stable... my core #1 - core #4 seems reached 58 degress for couple seconds but thats for it.. and go back around 55-56ish and just passed 8K self-test ![]() ![]() I probably need to upgrade/ buy cooler if I am thinking to push my core up from this 2700 MHz.. as that now my cores are closes to 60 degrees when I'm running the stress.. (I read somewhere in this forum's overclocking guide that I should not have my core for more than 60 degrees C temp) anybody has a info of good cooler and easy to install perhaps? ![]() ![]() Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz FSB Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L 512MB GeForce 7300 GT 2x2GB Kingston PC2-5300 KVR667D2N5/2G ![]() Last edited by elite; March 26th, 2008 at 03:35.

| theres loads of good coolers out there. The zalman 9500 or the bigger 9700 is a great cooler, but its up there with the higer priced ones and requires you to remove the motherboard to install. Ive got a arctic cooling freezer pro 7, and its not bad. Its aimed more towards noise management than really good cooling, but its stil better than the stock cooler. Its fairly cheap and you can install it within the case. | ||||||||||||||

| The Thermaltake V1 is a good cooler that installs using the standard pins, otherwise the best we've reviewed use a backplate mounting scheme. Newegg.com - ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler - Retail Newegg.com - ZEROtherm Nirvana NV120 120mm 2-ball UFO Bearing / Transparent CPU Cooler - Retail Newegg.com - Thermaltake CL-P0401 110mm Full-Range Fan CPU Cooler - Retail Three I know right off the top of my head that are excellent for overclocking with quads. If it makes you feel better, the thermal threshold for those quads is 100C, and they operate perfectly fine under load at 80C. | ||||||||||||||

again, I want to say I'M REALLY IMPRESS WITH THIS FORUM... especially the HELPS ![]() ![]() I've been looking at the links you given me... and read on the reviews on each cooler.. now I'm confused.. every1 says it's big and it's biiiggg.. now that according to qazwsx some cooler may caused too big to install that I have to remove my Mobo Completely.. I guess I'm just not ready for the hassle.. I just want a quick fast install but does have good cooling too though.... so... which one would be this one guys... any suggestion/reccomendation? thanks alot and again... THIS FORUM IS AWESOME!... ![]() ![]() Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz FSB Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L 512MB GeForce 7300 GT 2x2GB Kingston PC2-5300 KVR667D2N5/2G ![]() Last edited by elite; March 26th, 2008 at 04:41.

| Ok... now I'm completely confuse.... After doing some readings on the HL reviews on cooling section... I read on Thermaltake V1 CPU Cooler Review and keep reading till get to some few air cooling comparison table... it says Thermaltake V1 got: This whats numbers below refers to as the line goes down: Stock Idle Stock Load OC Idle OC Load Thermaltake V1 High 30 44 36 59 Low 30 42 39 61 and in the same time.. in the same page as V1 I also saw: Zalman CNPS9700 LED High 28 40 33 53 Low 30 43 35 58 Then... that's what's made me go and see review for Zalman CNPS9700 LED but then.. I got so confused on why it shows different temp comparison result in its' own review page, as I seen this: Cooler Stock Idle Stock Load OC Idle OC Load Cooler Master Gemini II 31 44 37 55 Thermaltake Big Typhoon 31 45 37 57 Zalman CNPS9700 LED 36 (Low) 33 (High) 51 (Low) 46 (High) 44 (Low) 39 (High) 67 (Low) 60 (High) Now I'm confused on which one is actually shows the correct temp one that I will get on the Zalman, as the top comparison on V1 review page it says High 28 40 33 53 Low 30 43 35 58 and in its zalman review page: High 33 46 39 60 Low 36 51 44 67 thats really a huge degrees different.. well anyways.. of all those confusion.. what do you guys think about zalman 9700? what about Cooler Master Gemini II and Thermaltake Big Typhoon? as after being refered to review page and read alot.. I found out perhaps thermaltake V1 is not the best one after all in cooling? or am I wrong here? are they as easy as V1 to install it to our MoBo? or are they noisy? or why you guys didnt recommend me for the 1st time, I mean looking @ the temp degrees they look very cool... so I figured that's gotta be a reason for you guys not refering me on these cooler! and one last question... can I know what is really a backplate? why is it so good that you guys keep mentioning it? :D thanks guys Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz FSB Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L 512MB GeForce 7300 GT 2x2GB Kingston PC2-5300 KVR667D2N5/2G ![]() Last edited by elite; March 26th, 2008 at 10:29. | ||||||||||||||
