I got like 5650 or something like that in this rig running Vista Ultimate x64. I haven't run it since upgrading to SP1.. if that would make a difference.

Have 4 :D But it hasn't been worth it, so they're spread out. 3Dmarks are one thing, having more machines with some muscle is another. So the main is still two 3870's and the other two found other homes.

The pencil trick was with Athlon overclocking, and can be done on the 3870's. This isn't exact and probably better left for another subject; but there's four solder bars on the card's back side. By rubbing graphite between them, you short them but with resistance. It's shade tree, but you can adjust the voltage this way. Too much voltage, rub it off and try again. Once you find the right amount you can add a resistor.

The 3870 can go a long ways, and a bit further with juice. What I feel is a better GPU gets a better clock to play with the big boys...as if it didn't already.

My very surprising (to me anyway) 3DMark06 score during a review this weekend was 11224. Didn't think to take a screenshot.

I had gotten a 3.501gHz overclock very easily with this board. 3DMark06 was the only one that wouldn't run at that overclock, all the others did fine. Crysis and SupCom even ran fine. First time that ever happened. Had to back off OC rather than up the Vcore...considering my CPU was at about 80C.Click the image to open in full size.

C2Q Q6600 @ 3.489gHz
Asus Striker II NSE (nVidia nForce 790i SLI chipset)
Kingston HyperX PC3-13000 2 gig kit
Apollo Radeon HD 3850 512MB (totally stock!)
Nesteq ECS 7001 700 Watt PSU
Rosewill RCX-Z775-EX CPU Cooler (DEFINITELY not enough cooler for this overclock!)
Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1
