Depends on how fast your processor is, what type of processor it is, what type of client you are running, and what WU you got to do.

Actually, machine #3 would be a Quad Core rig, not a dual core.

using the SMP client, my E6600 runs those about every 28-32 hours.

and OM_G.... the folding client runs in the background as a process so when a program starts it has a very low priority process that is overtaken even by an anti-virus update or something like that.... it has no impact on the network except when it downloads which can be 1-10MB files and upload possibly double the size of the download, again this is only every 24-72 hours... it is all quiet and runs in the background... worse comes to worse if it just causes any conflicts you can stop it and remove it.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

don't worry, the work units are very small downloads so it won't further slow down your connection and they only download automatically when the previous WU is finished and sent in which is very occasional (some WU's take few days to complete, depending on the size)

The best is a quad-core with Hd2900. But I don't think 2900 is supported by the FAH program because I tried it, only X1800 are last time I checked. I fold for a different team.

And adding in, FAH really only uses the idle cpu power... Like if you kick in a game or something that will override FAH..

SMP client for dual or quad core setups:

http://www.stanford.edu/%7Ekasso...P%20Client.EXE

FAQ on the introduction and How-to install here:

Folding@home - FAQ-SMP

Quote:
For Windows XP and 2000: install the Microsoft .NET framework v2.0 before installing the SMP client. Next, run the self-extracting installer to choose an installation directory and install the files there. Then run install.bat in the installation directory to complete the install process. Running the fah.exe binary starts the client. More detailed instructions are at the bottom of this page (link above).

For Windows Vista: the .NET framework v2.0 is not needed (it is already installed). Run the self-extracting installer to choose an installation directory and install the files there. Then run install.bat in the installation directory to complete the install process. Running the fah.exe binary starts the client. More detailed instructions are at the bottom of this page (link above).
