Default Re: Virus found in F@H work file.

In my case, I was installing Windows 2000, which has no built in firewall available.

Finally, had to pick up a router (needed the NAT and it's 4x built in switch), with a free trial of Norton's (Symmantic), and used that until I updated to XP sp 2. Now it's using the Windows firewall and AVG and the NAT from the router, and has had no problems.

Before putting this thread to bed, especially for new folders, let me repeat that there has NEVER been a virus in either the Folding@Home programs, or their work units; only the occasional false positive claim by (usually) Avast.

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

In those cases, as well as users installing an original XP that pre-dates SP2 (which turns the firewall on by default), a user should keep their PC disconnected from the internet until installing a pre-downloaded/burned (to CD, USB key, etc) firewall, such as ZoneAlarm, Comodo, etc, and then proceed to hop online for updates.

Or SP2. I always install SP2 on a system before I connect it to the internet.
