TY for the heads up I'm having issues with my GX2 too on 178.13 I think but have'nt seen what I waanted in the release notes yet.

Along with the other advice here sometimes I delete the Nvidia folder in program files dir too at least it's helped in the past for me.

BTW, is your OC stable yet?

here is my laptop going at it :

WOW that's good to know. I've been wondering about how to upgrade my lappies GPU drivers. Wonder if they have some drivers that will work on my ASUS M51Sn. I read about stories of weird refresh rates like 59Hz instead of the usual 60Hz that cause games to not play so well. So I've stayed away not knowing what to expect. I'll check the link and see what's up. TY

Had to use System Restore and go back a few days, but everything seems to be running properly. Now using the GPU version with display, so I can actually see the progress.

1) How do I get the GPU client loaded into FAHMON? Guess I had the older version before, which I set up in FAHMON the same way I did the SMP client. Can't quite figure out how to run this one.

2) Used to take about 2.5 hours to run a GPU WU on the 8800GTX. Now appears to be 4.5 hours. What's up with that?

Oh yeah, OC seems successful. CPU slightlty lower at 3.329Mhz, but RAM now OCed to 444 Mhz (from 380 before). Read somewhere that shaders are most important for folding, so throttled back a bit on GPU - hopefully that'll help with stability a bit. Not sure what to do next - volt modding?

Edit: According to my system monitor, Folding@Home is running on this rig at almost 50% of the CPU's power.
50%? you will never finish the WU. if it's the regular client you need to install 2 - 1 for each CPU. also, use FAHMON to monitor the progress...

in FAHMON just add the GPU client the same way as you did the SMP client. don't use the display! it's extremely buggy yet and uses a lot of your CPU power as well!! they advise on the stanford's web page not to use the GPU display because they have still issues with it! just use FAHMON to monitor the progress.
RAM isn't very important from the folding prospect. if the CPU is fine, than just leave it like this, should still give you enough extra power. voltmod? hm, only if your temps are within 50C, if not I would stay away. you lose more from ocasional crashes, than the gain from the extra OC, not to mention you might damage your CPU in a longrun...

If it's GPU it's normal that it's taking 50% of the CPU since it's only using 1 CPU core and he has a dual core.... ;D

I think I used the V6GPU2 with special viewer for Nvidia (second option on this page http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther. I think before I had the fourth, the Console version. I'll look to kill the one and download/install the second tonight.

I figure 3.3 is close enough to 3.4, plus the faster RAM ought to help with some non-folding apps.

Yeah, I think once I get this stable I've got to stay away from playing around with OCing. It's fun, but not so much with all the crashes, problems, etc.

Does FahMon run on Ubuntu, sbohdan?

Edit: I tried running two clients in Ubuntu (before I switched to this team), and it did not work.

New Nvidia driver out yesterday (this is the Vista 64 version).
GeForce Release 178

Anyone know if this will support folding? I thought every newer release would.

Still having problems folding on GPU. Console version successfully installed, but kept getting mdr_run errors (I think that's the code). Gonna try to fix (again) tonight. SMP still running.

They all do. Just make sure PhysX is installed.

About an hour ago I installed the 178 32-bit drivers from the CUDA page with the GPU2 client for Windows XP (with SP3), it is folding along no problems at all
on an 9600GSO card. This is a dedicated folding rig so it has no fluff installed, bare minimum with full updates from MS.

P.S. For GPU folding on an nVidia card it has to be a CUDA driver. Regular drivers won't work.
PhysX is NOT required for GPU2 client folding.

Well, I've got to eat my words. After a lot of problems I finally got 178 installed (again) and lo and behold it WORKS!

So psyched. Not sure what in the world I did but at least it is fixed now. Looking forward t piling up the points like i was before.

Can I change the title of this thread to 178 DOES fold?
