Is cancer significant enough?

2005 First results from Folding@Home cancer project published. We have been studying the p53 tumor surpressor and our first results on p53 have recently been published. You can find a summary and link to the paper on our papers page.

To our knowledge, this is the first peer-reviewed results from a distributed computing project related to cancer. Thanks to the continued support of FAH donors, this is will be just the first of many cancer related works that will come from FAH.

Roughly half of all known cancers result from mutations in p53. Our first work in the cancer area examines the tetramerization domain of p53. We predict how p53 folds and in doing so, we can predict which amino acid mutations would be relevant. When compared with experiments, our predictions have appeared to agree with experiment and give a new interpretation to existing data.

Go to the Stanford FAH page and click on "results".

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

well, Virus, most of them have short lifespan, and cannot last long with out a host (human and animal and bacteria) technically replication depends entirely on it Host that have the DNA/RNA cell structure . we can only create vaccines and antiviral that stop or halt the replication of a viral RNA which answer that question of curing virus, in fact your right most of virus can't be cure but not all, some can be, but physicians and scientist alike opted to prevent it rather than curing.

do to complexity of a virus replication, F@H helps researchers to expand the antiviral bank and vaccines that is already and will be ready for the market with high safety standards, and minimal risk.

with it comes to common colds, due to its complexity the syndrome / illness know as common cold, is not caused by one virus but by 200 diff ones, this will be next to impossible to cure, but to battle it you will need your immune system back at peak, this 200 diff virus are commonly known as opportunistic infection, which attack any life form that can be suitable for habitat and replication, such invasion makes it more difficult for our body to recover, so rather than looking which virus over the 200 known ones that can cause it all we need it to regain immune system control the let our body form antibodies to fight back, once such antibody is formed your immuned to the one specific virus that caused your common cold, but it doesnt end there you will be infected with another one if your immune system is not at peak they will just sneak in you.

yeah for a common civilian a cure for common cold will be practically sound, but scientifically not feasible or not cost efficient. the easiest way to combat this common cold is a healthy lifestyle, you can search the internet for proper diet and vitamins protiens exercise and precautions to be taken just to aviod the debilitating syndrome.

and btw Hepatitis C Virus Cure such as long acting Interferon, Ribavirin, and other stuff i can't remember are in near success completion or reaserch and testing. Another great reason to F@H. i'll look for the medical article site that i found that.
