Real world. I have several machines folding. Nope, matters not what I decide to do on any of them, same results, they perform just fine. They run 24/7 anyways but nope, no increase in power consumption. Blah, blah and blah.

The fact is folding is a good thing. The fact is folding in no way slows things down for normal use. The fact is I haven't a clue the machine is folding unless I look.

Why anyone would even believe the myth covered escapes me.

Just My Take...

True I guess, except for this:

Quote:
Myth: Running a CPU at 100% for weeks on end will "wear it out". (submitted by HTPC Rookie"
Truth: Explain to him that an electrical interface cannot wear out, it can only become damaged by extreme voltages, heat, or physical causes. I had a P3700MHz folding for 24/7, and it's still folding. Many people here have even older machines that still run. I think i'm near the top of the "I have an old crappy computer lying around" from the Mac "Lisa" in my garage that STILL RUNS. The only thing F@H can theoretically shorten is a drive lifespan, but considering how often the windows indexing service crawls the drive, if you disable that rarely-used feature, F@H will have no negative effect.
I would like an explanation as to my my light bulbs burn out then. And why one can predict usable hours of a tungsten tip in space vacuum.

I may not know my electronics like an uber geek, but I know my electrons - and device that produces radiation creates wear. Of course, it may take a thousand years to wear a circuit out - but its wear.

If you like folding - and understand how the data is being used - you should do it, IMO

I agree!! Please don't let me get banned for this!

If this project is supposed to be doing so much good for research, then why did I just spend the last 5yrs, watching my Mother-N-Law die? She died on 2/13/07. The cancer in wich she had was supposed to be in remition. I myself have had to take her to several different doctors to get several different answers. I myself don't plan on doing anything for these so-called projects until I can see some actual proof that they're actually doing something good for all of us. I appologize for the rant. Bailey.

hey, everybody has a right to his opinion so NP I'm sorry for your mother in law but let me explain you something: in the past , before cures were invented for those illnesses, that can be cured now, people used to die of those deceases. this did not stop scientists from looking for the cure - that's why these deceases post no danger anymore. if they would of give up then, like you - people would still be dying... so again: I'm sorry for your loss but this project gives us all an opportunity to help find the cure, so others won't have to die in the future. I have no idea when this will happen but if we just give up, then for sure it will never do

I work full time with Alzheimers/Cancer/Parkinsons/Schizophrenic patients........so every time I go to work I see why we fold.

New cures don't find themselves, new treatments don't find themselves.

What we do may or may not find cures but it offers something of which it's value cannot be understated..........hope.

If my post doesn't make much sense it's because I've just returned from a 12 hour shift with the aforementioned patients...........and NONE of them sleep at night.....grrrrrrrrrr.

You should fold!!! Join us: Team 50578
