I dont care about humanity! Now if it helped my dogs live longer maybe... Also all of my cpu cycles go into refreshing the woot.com page.

I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review

your dogs? how about you. + its not just how long you live but HOW you live. what I wrote isn't personal though, I am generally disappointed that out of such a big community, almost no one is participating...

I mean no harm to the forum, but this may point out why so few participate and can be worked on. Really look at the member count. Then weigh in the actually active members that would take part. It's just not that big...yet. I'd think many of the power houses here might be folding for other teams.

I know I don't want to drop out two accounts, one in the top 100 and another in the top 200, of an overall 3rd place team. I'm one of many who participate in more than one forum that already has a team. To start over after 4 years of collecting points would be a huge thorn in my side, and re-arrange my entire folding activity. I can't just go to all the boxes and simply change the team to report to even if I wanted to.

I do think that all HL members should be folding, but to whom they dedicate to is more than love a forum, but the passion said forum's community puts out. I earnestly feel that being "disappointed" isn't passion but rather frustration. Passion would be more of a fighting spirit, not one of let down. I know I'm silent in my own team, but when I see it fail I fire up some monsters and roll the bandwagon faster.

Just pointing out some 3rd party observations.

Some of us have been a part of other teams but it all boils down to this:
If you are only concerned about points and how many you have with the other team then I really don't see a point in someone even folding at all. The point of Folding is to 1: help humanity and 2: support a team, not about personal points or team/personal rank. If your basis is on personal points or only staying with another team because of your rank then it is understood where your real reasons for folding lie: points, not humanity. I have folded for 3 different teams over the past few years and I do it for the chance of finding cures to currently incurable diseases, not points or rank.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Ok, then no one should have teams. We just fold on our own. You do that?

What's the use of having a team if you're correct. Where's team screwball?

Just taking some spite from that in that I am not folding for a cause. The cause is there, teamed up or not. The team aspect is completely separate. If you fold, you've already hit the purpose and no spite. The fact that I'm helped and pushed by my team helps the cause more than seeing disappointment that more aren't in this particular team. That's all I meant. I don't see much reason to switch, and I gave the reasons that I feel people actually fold on some team. Anytime you're in a team, you want to win something. Otherwise, just fold and you're golden.

No one signs to any team and really says, Win or lose...I just want to play. It costs money to fold. I want something out of it.

At any rate, whether you do it for the challenge of beating someone/some team or because you want to help, you're still helping.
Personally I do it to help, but I can't say I dislike seeing my PPD go up. It's always a challenge, optimize things, put more computers under your name, it's all fun. :)
And I'm 316 in the donor rank over at Standford, 332 at EOC. Must fold faster! :P

I'll start folding soon, but my PC isnt on a huge amount. If I dont meet the deadlines fast enough, well i'll just have to overclock

just to answer this. I did not say anything to anyone personally. If someone is folding for another team (like polo, you and some others), I respect that but the fact is there are hundreds of new members @ HL who don't and I was just wondering why not. BTW, I folded for another team before and switched to the HL team as soon as the HL folding team was created. even though I do look at other forums from time to time that I'm a member of but I consider HL my Prime computer forum, so I felt logical to switch most of my attention and efforts (including folding) to the HL team. so again, just to make it clear: I respect the fact if some of you who fold for other teams don't want to switch - I simply want to encourage the others to consider folding for the HL team if they feel this is the best PC community they love to participate in and also want to help research in hope of a better future...

you can start folding anytime. it could be part time and full time. part time generally is whenever you turn on your computer, surf the web, play or anyhing else - the litttle service is just running in the background doing calculations, and using ONLY THE UNUSED cycles of your CPU(s). now, deadlines are generally important with only the high performance clients like SMP, GPU2, PS3. these clients get more points because of the tighter deadlines (your E6750 is more than capable. my D830 can easily meet the deadlines for the SMP client, so anything over that is splendid). if you plan to fold only part time (when your computer is on anyway), just try the regular folding clients and if your computer is on very seldom (not everyday), just choose the option, when setting up the client the first time, to get WU's (work units) without deadlines.

I understand that and was not directing the whole situation at you, sorry if it sounded like that. I have seen many people that their entire purpose for anything on the internet is competition which in this case means points, not the cause. Considering there is no physical "prize" that any of us win for folding, that turns many people off from it. "Well if I don't get anything for it then why do it?"...
I can understand the desire to stick with the team you're on. For me that is here at HL but that is also because of "issues" revolving around the websites I was previously a member of. WhiteEagle has his own team, polo and others choose to fold for other teams as well.

We would like to see some new folders from here, people that have never tried it before and would be willing to dedicate some time to a team.

Thanks HL and Corsair!
