Ok... So I see your cpu, then I see your heatsink. Then I see you have your heatsink mounted on your motherboard. What are you trying to say? You never had it mounted in the first place? :D

that video card will not overclock anymore... I suggest you give up trying. Be happy you have a highly overclocked cpu and a kickass system as it is... you will notice ZERO increase in performance of anything by overclocking that video card 40MHz...

also looking at the pics, I hope you cleaned out that zalman because I already see dust collecting insode of there...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

To validate the orientation of his HS bracket, I did something similar in my wife's computer when I installed a Zalman 7000B. I had to basically turn it over and install it backwards, so it wouldn't be in conflict with a cap that sits near the socket. It worked, so I went with it. If I ever need to do anything with the CPU, all I need to do is take the bracket off.

As to overclocking your video card, it looks like you have stock cooling on your card. I'd seriously consider some aftermarket solution before you OC it, even a little bit. I did some experiments with OC'ing a 6800GT, and I think doing so with stock cooling killed it - so tread carefully. If you do want to OC the video card, (it looks like you're running an nVidia platform, no?), check the nVidia control panel that came as part of the driver software. You should be able to change clock settings from there. You can test, and run settings with it, but I would really look at changing your cooling first. I don't want to see you kill your card the way I killed mine.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

Ahh you guys don't understand.. I oc'ed it before but then i reformatted with all the same settings, same OS (Windows Vista) but none of the programs read my video card now. I just want to oc just a little and i have a PCI fan to cool my video card. Its down about 5C... Im happy about that but 575/1800 isn't cutting it 4 me... I want 620/2000 AT LEAST

Ok, I don't know what to say about the programs not reading the video card, but what are the normal idle temps for your card as opposed to when you're running a game? I have a Zalman VF700cu on mine, and it does a good job, keeping the card in the high 30s (idle) to high 50s/low 60s (gaming temp). I used to have a PCI fan for my 6800GT, and it hardly cooled it at all, so I ditched it.

PB,

Go to this site and download ATI Tool v.26. Yes, it says it's a tool for ATI cards, but it works just fine on Nvidia based cards. That is the tool I use to overclock my video cards. You can use the Scan for Artifacts button to see if the changes you've made generates errors.

I'm not sure if ATI Tools works for Vista though. Have you tried Nvidia's Control Panel? That is the link to the newest version for Vista. Control Panel is different from NTune and works a lot better too.

Remember, make small changes first. Then, use this program to load your video card after each change. Monitor your temps closely. If you start getting into the 85*C range loaded, I'd back off a bit. I've yet to find a definitive answer from NVidia about temperature limits on the 8800 cards.
