| Want me to ice him, boss? | UPDATE: Wife brought a new remote home,I set it up,TV won't change channels or go off and on with it.Gonna make some calls to see what repair will cost vs. new purchase.Wish I could fix the damn thing myself, probably save a small fortune. |

| Was it a generic or programmable remote? I've found I've had to play around a lot with the setup to get the damned things to work correctly. Does the old remote still partly work? ![]() |

| I was just thinking that if the old remote still (partly) works and the new one doesn't at all it would seem that the settings on the new remote aren't right. Or the new remote is completely broken already (unlikely). At least that way you could isolate one problem to the new remote - doesn't help with the basic problem, but at lease you know the new remote either doesn't work or isn't programmed correctly. If the old remote no longer works at all then you're stuck - cant' figure out which part is broken - old remote or tv. Sorry dude. Try tellin' your wife to keep her hands off the TV! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Want me to ice him, boss? | I had the old remote apart and checked everything very closly.I saw nothing oviously wrong with it.I highly doubt it is a remote problem, since the volumn button (on the tv) turns it on/off as does the change channel buttons. Weird chit if you ask me. ![]() I posted in the tv repair forum...see where it goes and post back here when reply is recieved. If I can fix it...ima gonna fix it.We are very happy with the picture and sound....really dont want another tv at this time.We were at Kmart and priced some flat screens.....WTF! People are nuts to pay that kinda $$ on a tv...just my opinion. There was a Sony there that was nice and priced at around $780.....thats crazy.Think we will stay in the $400-$500 zone. ![]() |

| I'm with you there. We've got a 32" CRT as main TV that we bought five years ago at Costco for just under $400. That's fine for me. I can't believe people are paying $1000 and more for a TV. I guess its all those folks who got subprime adjustable rate mortgages paying very low teaser rates who could afford that. ![]() |
