Default Re: Resetting The BIOS

this will pretty much be a non-issue (hopefully) once the EFI setup takes a much deeper hold, all OC and system clocks could be adjusted in the OS itself or the pre-OS boot screens

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Sadly, one of the aspects of EFI was to do away with the ability to overclock.. We'll have to wait and see, its probably a while away from widespread adoption (It was supposed to happen 2 yrs ago).

With board makers trying to go away from socketed BIOS chips, and the death of floppies, alternate means of flashing the BIOS are becoming more common, as are applications that make recovering from a bad flash and resetting the BIOS automatically.

With the development of Hyperspace, cME, and Splashtop, there may be no need eventually for any kind of BIOS, and any tweaking you are allowed to do will have to be done from within the OS.

A switch like that would be very handy for overclocking. This DFI board doesn't reset the BIOS automatically after a failed OC, so a switch like that would make it very easy to reset the BIOS. I may have to look into this for my build.

Sapphire Radeon HD3870 512MB

Something that probably needs mentioned in this thread, is the fact that the system needs to be OFF before clearing the BIOS!!!

If a person happened to hit the switch when the computer was on or in Windows this would screw the Bios chip!!!!

That's true, and that's why you need something like this: spdprtToggle

why not just bypass all the extras and go with something like CoreBoot... I am going to be testing this as soon as any of my systems are supported.
