The PSU Page 1

Though far from perfect this is what is going on. There should not be a compatability issue with a motherboard or PSU built to existing specifications. Not with anything built in the past several years anyway. I tried to show the timming and what the PWR_ON and PWR_OK lines are all about. I used a very basic data acquisition device tied into one of my home computers. I monitored only the two lines and cited the PSU design guide. The PSU used for the test was an Antec True Power 2.0 550 Watt PSU and the motherboard was an Intel D955 XBK as used in my everyday machine.

For those who may be further curious the system runs 6 HDDs and an ATI All In Wonder X1800 Graphics Card. I built it a few years ago and it is a fairly loaded system as to the PSU. Not major but an adequate load.

Lol yep.

There is some good info in this thread though - maybe change up the title so people know?

We can kind of make it into a discussion thread of sorts?

LOL, yep we definately beat this to death. Someday (the infamous someday) I hope to take information like everything covered here and compile it into something useful. I would like to make a graph similar to those I linked to for PWR_ON and PWR_OK but include the rails comming up, basically the whole scenario of what happens from the moment the button is pressed till things are stable. Nice thing about a graph is you have a visual representation in time of what is going on. Sort of easy to relate to. However, that is a someday thing as time allows.

Currently I am butt deep in a PSU project with Manta and trying to get that caught up and actually make more progress.
