What do you have to lose?

FWIW, you may want to label parts as they come off with post it notes, or tape them to a print out of the manual
True, the laptop is a freebie. But a free laptop (that's not that bad) doesn't come around that often. Yeah, it's got integrated graphics, but hell I'd use it for music and stuff.

I know you can do a soft reset on some laptops by taking out the battery and holding the power button down for 30 seconds. Hey, if it works, it'll save you some heartache.

Yeah, I was wondering how you'd do that. I still don't have access to the laptop and I doubt my bro's coming home this weekend.

I'll forward all these ideas to him when I can though. :)

Well, my bro came home this weekend. I've tried all your options and failed. It's gotta be the mobo now. Darns...

Could you guys help find this mobo? It's a HP Pavilion dv1310us notebook BTW.... :)

I would look on ebay you may get lucky. I have an older compaq here, the case is shot but the mobo is ok. You may find someone parting one out with the same problem (bad display)

Currently, the only working mobo on there is like $329 bucks. There's other mobos on there with the same problem as mine (no power) for like $50 bucks, but that's useless to me.

I just found a mobo w/ case for $40 right now. There's 2 days left and 0 bids!

I found it under a Compaq Presario that uses the exact same mobo (already confirmed it). The only problem is the guy says he doesn't know if the mobo works.

BTW, this should be obvious, but any mobo supporting Dothan P-Ms should support Celeron-Ms right? If not, I found a Dothan P-M @ 1.6GHz for $50 (that's a bargain!).

If it supports Dothan, I believe it should support any Celeron M.
