According to Kingston you're right.

MODULES MUST BE ORDERED AND INSTALLED IN PAIRS for Dual Channel mode. Kingston offers "K2" kit part numbers for Dual Channel mode.

1GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 DIMM

This system supports ECC and non-ECC memory. The system will not perform the ECC function when non-ECC modules are installed

All this sounds so fimilar when I first start playing around with computers, its been like 13 years that ive been building systems and such. When I was new into system I didn't know any thing about better brands I thought memory is memory and video cards were video cars and I would always buy all my stuff from places like besty buy, compusa and other places don't get me wrong buying a video card, sound card, displays, cdrom from thoses places are fine BUT memory, psus.mobo you really want to buy the better brands like: ocz, corsair, geil, silverstone ect they really do make a difference and have less problems.

Some might say thats crap but I'll give you just one example out of many. I was building a new system and bough must of my stuff from compusa and got home put everything together and when I went to start my system nothing would happen my fans would spin and then shut off. So I troubled shot everything returned some things that I thought was the problem and they were not so then finally returned the psu got the same one and the same thing computer wouldn't start. took it back 4 times and the 5 one worked . Compusa had 4 bad ones in stock the psu was some compusa brand so being so pissed off I returned the working one and bought my first antec true 550 and it was nice after that im pretty much sold on ocz and sliverstone stuff (top-end brands).

I guess my whole point to this story is that your going to run into theses kinda of problems with lower end brands/lower end models, plus stay away from on board stuff it robs your resouces.
