no discharges of any kind, although it's happened to me before as well, and it sucks hard.

true, finding all that out so quickly may be overwhelming, but its a LOT better knowing what to do now, then not having any idea.

turns out the 20GB is actually dead -- doesnt spin at all, nothing about it wants to work -- at all.

the 80GB IDE i have coming in is currently in a system working perfectly -- so im gona use that for now and probably till my sister's next upgrade (which wont be soon -- this w/512MB ram is gona be WAY more than good enough for her). if i see a good deal on an SATA (160GB+ -- i'll never buy smaller from now on) then i'll grab it, sure, but its no match for the 500GB i have waiting for my beast next februray :)

edit:

just found out one of my cuzin's 1GB ram sticks arent working -- lifetime warranty though, and still covered through the store -- that and the CPU together will be exchanged tomorrow and that system's good.

next week with the hard drive i will have the mobo and post up some updates. yes, i also need 512MB DDR2 ram.

p.s. not that im trying to migrate buy/sell here, but plz if anyone has am2 mobo or ddr2 ram and looking to get rid of it cheap, let me know asap. if ur by ANY chance in the GTA, i'd love to meet and if the price is still right, we can easily talk bout shipping.

thanks!

500? Why not go for the biggy? 750... Or why not two 750's in RAID 0? that is what I want in my next build. lol... If only I had the money.

After reading the reviews on Newegg; I wouldn't have touched this mobo. Looks like everyone has issues with it. I do wonder if it has to do with everyone getting the wrong ram for it.

With this knowledge, i know:
my sister needs a new mobo
my sister needs a new hard drive

i solved 2 HUGE problems today, and got Vista and Linux dual booted PERFECTLY on my system...AN AMAZING DAY OK!!!!!

p.s. i dont know what the hell is the problem with her motherboard...oh well -- guess it doesnt really matter at this point.

thanks!!!
Going to Kingston, it shows various ram for it, but reading the mobo manual, it specifies 256, 512 & 1 GB unbuffered non-ECC DDR2. 1 gig part #KVR533D2N4/1G - 512 #KVR533D2N4/512

To clear CMOS - remove power plug - take the battery out and move the jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 for 5 to 10 seconds, then move the jumper back to 1-2, reinstall battery.

There is a 4 pin connector for a speaker - connecting a speaker will allow you to hear the beep codes.

Now, buying the wrong memory will give you results that you are seeing. I have a server board that had this issue - buying the correct ram fixed it.

A 20 gig HD is not enough. My preferred drive is a 40 gig for main, with a larger drive as slave to run "my documents" and keep a backup.

You should go to Asus and download the manual. I had issues this morning getting the US link to work, so I clicked on M2V-TVM English Edition User's Manual(E2710) - global download.

I'll have a look at you're cousins manual next...

i did exactly that to find out about the CMOS.

i'll have that 512MB RAM stick (probably samsung, or kingmax or something) and i'll try that in the M2V-TVM before buying a new AM2 board.

thanks.

FWIW, your cousin's manual says the same thing about memory. Since his was running, did you try his ram in your sisters mobo? Did you try her ram in his mobo?

i exchanged all the parts between mobos -- i can say almost for sure that 1 of his 1gb sticks dont work, and my 1gb stick doesnt work.

i guess what we'll do is get it tested by the tech at the store he got it from, and they'll tell us about replacing it or what not.

the thing is HIS 1GB stick is messed up FOR SURE because the other 1GB stick EXACTLY THE SAME works with his mobo. and mine, the Kingmax (his is Kingston) does not work in his mobo.

The ram I looked up and linked above is what should be in your computer unbuffered non-ECC.

In you're very 1st post, you say Kingston ram - the specs are for your computer, no? Please post the Kingmax ram that you have.

With my server board - there is an option in my bios to use ECC ram, but I couldn't boot with the non-ECC ram to get to it.

I just recently went through this and it turned out that it was a faulty motherboard.
