the speakers did "click" if thats what u meant, and im pretty sure it was.

this is when the speakers were connected to the MOTHERBOARD'S sound port, too.

im suspecting its a video problem at this point...it has to be -- what else can it be really?

it probably ties down to a motherboard problem, yes, but with the video specifically i think.

i know this isnt buy and sell, but i would really appreciate it if someone could contact me if they had a really cheap PCI or PCIe video card theyre willing to sell me.

what could it beeee?

if your psu didn't do anything, i'm more than possitive its your mobo. You can RMA it, and asus can fix it for you.

Whelp nevermind. I had an xtra video card in my closet but it disappeared. I am positive that the problem is with the mobo. Just do as Justin said. It may be worth it to just pick up a cheap ecs mobo to replace it.

SITUATION:

my cousin is having trouble with his BRAND NEW AM2 system (built by me -- X2 4200+, ASUS M2N-MX, PCIe 6800GS, 320GB SATA, 2x1GB Kingston DDR2-667).

i originally thought it was his mobo. so i brought his whole system home to test it. i pop my sister's Sempron 3000+, leave EVERYTHING ELSE the same -- IT'S ALIVE!!! her Sempron works.

now, her motherboard.

i took her motherboard, with his PCIe card and a PCI sound card and popped her Sempy into it -- nothing -- her mobo is fried. turns out, with further tests, the 20GB HDD is done too.

With this knowledge, i know:

my cousin needs a new CPU
my sister needs a new mobo
my sister needs a new hard drive

and

my cousin is still fully covered for his CPU, replacement will come soon
my sister's motherboard replacement is no big deal, especially if i can RMA it somehow;
and im gona have a spare 80GB HDD next week which will be utilised in her system

i solved 2 HUGE problems today, and got Vista and Linux dual booted PERFECTLY on my system...AN AMAZING DAY OK!!!!!

i thank everyone for your help! it turned out to be quite the discussion!!!

p.s. i dont know what the hell is the problem with her motherboard...oh well -- guess it doesnt really matter at this point.

thanks!!!

Sounds like you had a great day?!?! I suppose finding out all that you did, and getting things done made it a good day, but it sure is a bummer to have all of that happen in such a short time!

yeah, but atleast they seem to all be able to be fixed rather simply. And a 20gig HDD needs to be upgraded anywais.

When you were messin around with the computer, there wasn't any static discharges were there? That enough will destroy the mobo. I had that happen one time. It sucked.

Yeah 20 gigs is barely a WinXP install with all the updates, and a few programs.
