If you meant ACPI, thats what it means, but I dont know how it relates to the problem. Maybe a CPU power management settings problem? (just a guess)
Yes I meant ACPI.
Hhmmm, the BIOS on this board is soooo complex with sooooo many settings..... I'm going to have to do a thorough check in the BIOS to make sure everything is set right.

Well, this is definitely not a memory problem. You shouldn't have to worry about that.

On the contrary, just like polobunny said, it's relevant to your storage drivers... in specific, to your SATA drivers. This driver is specific to Vista only. You wouldn't find this problem using Windows XP.

I wouldn't be able to explain why a Vista designed driver would cause a BSOD (you'd expect it to be caused by a non-Vista driver).

However, I did manage to find a workaround someone came up with. This uses the XP version of the driver, which uses the SATA controller as an IDE controller.

It makes sense and seems worthy of a try, so give it a shot.

blue screen says nvstor.sys which is "nvidia storage"
So the next suggestion I have is go into the BIOS and look at the options... there should be something in there about using the hard drive in IDE mode instead of RAID mode.... I know this Gigabyte boards have 3 options for those but I forget the wording.
Also are the drivers you are using from Windows itself, from the CD that came with the motherboard or from the nvidia or Asus website??? Sometimes the ones from Asus will work and the ones directly from nvidia will not... had that issue early on with my A7N8X and the nforce chipset but after a few months the nvidia ones worked better than the Asus ones.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I was thinking that too, but I couldn't remember what it was called either. I know in my mobo that there is an option to run them in either IDE or RAID. Run them in IDE if they're in any of the other options... it may help.

Ok, when I get back from my hair cut I'll check out the BIOS setting.
So I should set it to IDE mode correct?

Thanks for all your helps guys, really means a lot to me!

Got it, IDE. I'll try it out.

Edit 2:
BTW, there is an option in the BIOS for SMART. I'll see what it is.

enable SMART... but thats not the one we are talking about... The setting should be under "Advanced" for your board...
Controller Mode: IDE
