Well I guess your right!!!! I suppose what you will have to do, is make your IDE hard drive the master, and set the optical drive as the slave.
Maybe just set the hard drive up on top of the DVD drive just to test it.

yeah I dont need the dvd drive really, i'll just leave it unpowered, unconnected in the case. Also have you noticed where the IDE connector is? it sits right under the graphics card. With a big cooler it would be a stuggle to get those both in.

Yea I noticed that as a matter of fact

You will probably need the DVD drive though to install windows once you get the hard drive installed.
You don't want to run a windows OS that was previously installed in a different system, ie: different chip set, ram, audio, etc... Then you will encounter other issues, and it may make you believe that it is the mobo or something!!!
You really want to start with a fresh install of windows to test the system out!

Yep stinger makes a very good point. Make sure you use a clean installation of the OS.

I really do recommend a SATA drive...it would make your life way easier. Of course, if funds are the problem, that's completely understandable.

Using one cable and the 2 extensions (one for the HDD and one for the OD) should work fine...I've done it with no issues.

Hope it works out.

ok ive got the problem sorted I think. I decided to just RMA the drive after it went compleatly haywire on me. just flashed blue and rebooted, frozze on a black screen before windows boots ect.

I got the new drive just yesterday and it works perfectly. looks like it was a bit dodgy that old one.

Thanks for the help everyone
