It's too early to tell just yet. I've not had a chance to really dig into the performance aspect of these drivers. This weekend is my 17th wedding anniversary, so I've been pretty focused on that.

At this point, I say back everything up that you need and do a reinstall. Make sure you have all your drivers on a disk or a separate partition.

Sorry bro. Without being right in front of it, it's hard to give better advice than that.
I take it you mean that an nVidia chipset would not work on his particular board, if he is talking about the one in his sig? I guess I'm biased to nVidia, since my board runs that chipset anyway, LOL!

No, I was talking about using Driver Cleaner Pro...and hoping that he had not picked the nVidia Chipset removal. Which would have removed all of his mobo drivers. If you check my sig, I'm into the nVidia thing myself.

Ok, I think I probably misunderstood you. As far as video goes, I've always done the nVidia thing, but the mobo I currently use was recommended to me by someone, and it just happened that it was an nVidia platform. I think my loyalty to nV started because my first computer had their stuff, and I got used to it, so changing to ATI (for video anyway) has never occured to me. It's a familiarity thing, I guess.

I'm not really loyal to any one particular brand. ATI or nVidia, AMD or Intel, doesn't matter. What does matter is the best performance I can get for my budget.

I don't care if Ford was making CPU's. If they performed the best, that's what I'd go with. And I hate Ford.

I would agree with this statement, because I downloaded a "latest driver" about 6 or 7 months ago, and I had nothing but problems with it. It was the 91.47 version at the time. I did the driver clean and proper install and all that, but I had all kinds of color problems when playing DVDs. I don't remember how my games reacted to it, but I had to go back to version 81.98 in order to solve my problem.

I had heard there were some issues with the 91.47 driver, but have those problems been corrected in the new "latest version"?
Yep the 91.47 drivers were a piece of crap!!!! I couldn't get rid of them fast enough

I've been apprehensive about downloading stuff from nVidia since I had that experience with that one driver, even though I had gotten a few before that which were issue-free. I would like to update my video driver, but I don't know if it would just be more trouble than it's worth, and then I'm going back to my old driver again.

Ok, got everything reinstalled and installed the 93.71 drivers. I don't get the memory error anymore but Madden 2004 just crashes to desktop after splash screen. Thats it, I'm going back to the 81.98 drivers. Anyone know where i can get it? Does Nvidia allow you to download old drivers from their site?

Or does anyone know of a better driver?

Edit: I found a copy of 77.30 drivers on the Battlefield 2 cd. Trying them now.....

Well the 77.30 drivers will not install because they are not compatible with the 7800 GS. I searched Nvidia's site for the 81.98 drivers and found them. According to Nvidia, the 81.98 drivers are the first driver set that they included support for the 7800 GS. I'll let ya know if they work.

Well, I suppose this answers my question as to the quality of the 93 series driver...Though I haven't tried the driver myself, it sounds like I should avoid it, just because going from one driver to a new one and back is so unnecessary.
