| You could try getting that HDD adapter, then install it XP/Vista onto it on another computer, but then you'd need to run a repair on the Sony to fix the chipset differences, which of course would need the CD. A linux distro, such as Ubuntu might work, but if Linux is not an option, it looks like you are going to have to find a native optical to fit into the laptop ![]() Opteron 64 165--1.5GB DDR--ECS KA1 MVP(thanks HL!)--x1800GTO 256MB--Seagate 320GB SATA--Antec 550 Watt--Antec P180 |

| Hmm... Alright, what if I can get Linux to install through a removable drive on my computer, get the HDD working in the laptop, install the external DVD burner's drivers so it works, and use it to install XP? Would that work? I know Vista doesn't let you install on a removable drive, not sure about XP though... |
