Default Re: if its not one thing....

I have seen something like this, but it has been a long time ago and it was due to a TCP/IP update that MS sent out to Win98. Have your tried removing all the protocols and all of the network devices and rebooted? I think you are on the right track, though I would think it is the TCP/IP stack more than the Microsoft Networking.

What happens if you do a ping with different packet sizes? Do you have another computer you can use to test the connection? A buddies laptop would be rule out a lot, as you could see going out and between the two computers how it is working. It might even be worth downloading a protocol analyzer just to make sure what is really being sent and received to make sure you don't have a bunch of garbage on the line.

Let me know what you find and I will help however I can.

Question Re: if its not one thing....

Mike, what was the result? Did Banditman's fix work? Inquiring minds want to know.

Sorry I have been busy past few days so haven't had much time to play with it but will this weekend.
I will try that when I get home, it has been working fine the past few days because I haven't restarted the computer or reset the network connection.

I have 4 other computers attached to this network and all of them work fine including the wireless connected one. I do think it is somehow related to either the TCP or Windows itself, possibly a registry problem. I figured this is the case since it is happening with both the onboard NIC and a PCI NIC that I added in when troubleshooting.
Will be trying that tool in an hour or 2....

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Smile Re: if its not one thing....

Cap, this stuff reminds me why phone support was so hard. It is so much easier when you can put your hands on it and just run through ideas. The cool thing though is we have such a diverse knowledge base on the boards, such as Banditman putting forward the TCP/IP fix it tool. You guys are going to keep me honest, I guess I am not going to be able to use my "it was magic" phrases.

I haven't had much chance to do too much but I did run that tool above and so far haven't run into any further problems.
