Alright well...I managed to mystically get it booted up last night (don't ask me how it just worked) but now this morning it refuses to do anything...One further symptom: when the computer is off the mobo light likes to flash, interestingly I can hear it flash and while I was watching TV after I'd turned it off, the light started flashing faster and faster and then it just went out. Normally it's always on. I can seem to make it come back on. My bro went ahead and opened the box and vaccumed out any dust with a really small nozzle. Nothing else has been done... I do have a really old video card in a computer downstairs as well as another (old) PSU but again seeing as I'm a ****** to this kind of thing I'm not 100% sure I can do it without messing something up.
BTW to deal with the overheating...is it safe to just keep the box open as a source of ventilation?

Picture of my comp, I didn't build it myself but since so much money was spent on the parts the build was free. Hope this helps.

If that temp is correct Josher, than you've got an overheating problem. Check to make sure that the fan is spinning, clean out any dust bunnies, clean up internal wiring (airflow), etc.
My 6600GT heatpipe used to get to 115C before artifacting, and yes it did survive past 120C temps.

You said he vaccumed it. While it might seem like a good idea, you have to be very cautious when doing so because chances are the nozzle of the vaccum is in plastic and therefore carries static electricty, which could disacharge on one of your computer component.
I can see from the picture that the processor heatsink has dust stuck in it, I would recommend blowing on it with a can of compressed air to remove it, and if not possible (possibly too tight to be blew away) you might want to unscrew the fan from the heatsink and remove it with your fingers.
You can expect your video card to look the same, and I somehow have a doubt that the initial problem was caused by your video card overheating, whether because it was dusty or a simple hardware failure.

At any rate, I suggest you:
-Clean the processor heatsink
-Clean the video card heatsink (blow on it using a can of compressed air)
-Try another power supply

Retrying with the same power supply and over could damage further your computer, so I honestly wouldn't try again to boot it with it. The cleaning while being not a necessity for the moment (in my opinion) is strongly advised however.

Edit: To answer your question (if it's safe to keep it opened), yes it is safe as long as nothing goes inside the case. It shouldn't be needed for anyone however, if you computer case needs to be side-less for it to run properly something is wrong (either a overheating component or poor/innapropriate cooling)

Turns out that after taking my computer in (it was under warranty) they found that my PSU had fried due to some storms we'd been having...now to find some good surge protection...hmmmm

it definitelly looks like heat is shutting down your rig. if it's really C and not F, than get your video card out and inspect it closely. the fan might not be working at all or the cooler isn't seated properly on the GPU...
