After I did the reinstall, I didn't need PS7 for a month or so. After I started using it is when the problems suddenly occurred again.

I'll be using something other than PS7, that's for sure.

i haven't read all the replies.. but i was reading somewhere that you can disable the "last modified" or "date created" or something like that, and it will speed up the time it takes to load.. but i think it was for avi files and not photos. but maybe there is something similar for pics.

So are the photos/files also opened or modified by Vista? if so then this may be related to Vista modifying the information so that XP is having problems reading them properly in the explorer view
