| First thing to check.. Antivirus program scanning the jpgs? I had this lagging issue once. I removed photoshop image associations and the issue was solved. Whatever was going on seems to be fixed in photoshop cs. Other versions I found. It is a "feature" delivered to you by Adobe. The default behavior when installing Photoshop is making ImageReady the handler for .jpg and .jpeg files. Change the filehandler back to the original and you have your old speed back. Run regedit.exe => go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT => .jpg and then change the (default) value of the key back into "jpegfile" instead of Photoshop.JPEGFile. Restart your PC and you're in business. To help you remember what the current setting was in case you would like all the fancy file properties again, you can change the keyvalue PreviousAssocation from "jpegfile" to "Photoshop.JPEGFile". I right-clicked on an image file and unchecked Generate Thumbnails under Properties, Photoshop Image. You could try lowering thumbnail size / quality in tweakui. | I'm Diggin it! | Already checked the A/V and that's not an issue. I have Irfanview as the default image editor. Thanks for the suggestions. ![]() Q6600@ 3.2GHz w/ CNPS9700 | EVGA 780i | 4Gb Patriot Extreme DDR2-800 5-5-5-12 | EVGA GTX 280 1Gb Video | 1x WD 640Gb HDD, 2x Seagate 400Gb HDD, 1x250Gb WD | 2x Samsung SH-203B Opticals | Antec 900 | ABS/Tagan BZ700 700W PSU | Zalman ZM-MFC1 Fan Controller |

| Modder-ator | If all else fails, reformat/reinstall! ![]() What happens if you copy the folder to another one of your drives connected internally? Does it still take unusually long to open the folder? Last edited by gvblake22; April 17th, 2007 at 14:58. |

| I'm Diggin it! | I'm just going to do a complete format. I don't have the time to troubleshoot this to the point of figuring it out like I normally would. Things with insurance and my house have really cranked up this week and I've been extremely busy/tired. I don't have the time for this craptastic picture issue. | I'm Diggin it! | Finally nailed it down to Photoshop 7. I had reinstalled my OS and still, the issues kept popping up. Gradually at first, but over time it would get bad. The thing is, I never installed PS7 on this new install. It was installed on one of my older drives and I was just clicking on the PS7 .exe file to use PS7 when I needed that level of functionality. So I was a little stumped that it would happen to the new Windows OS install. I deleted the whole PS7 folder and it was still going on. So I dug through my old disks for PS7 Pro and reinstalled it, then uninstalled it. Now, the pictures pop right up. Evidently, as soon as I started using PS7 from my other drive, it was running associations to what ever file format I was using, .jpg, .tiff and .bmp being the biggest ones. So now I have no Photoshop program installed and I sure as hell can't afford PS CS right now. So I guess it's onto Picasa or something.
