Alright i got the sound working again! I had to flash my bios up to the latest version then everything else fell in place.

this did bring up a new issue however, when i log on and my pc is booting, before windows is even booted a warning comes up "computer chip fan fail or too slow"

i have never had that message before in the past 3 years i have had this pc.. but then again i have never had this version of its bios either.

This is usually related to a fan speed control system in the BIOS that tries to control the speed of the fans (if any) connected to the computer. If you go into the BIOS and navigate to the PC Health menu, there is usually some options in there on which fans to control the speed of or to enable/disable speed monitoring of the fans. I usually disable any automatic fan speed controls, but I also don't connect any fans to the motherboard (like the chipset fan). Do you have any other fans connected to the motherboard? If not, just disable the fan monitoring on everything except the chipset fan.

The joys of owning a PC! I have had countless similar problems.

Maybe your fan has packed up. Have a look in side of the case and see if its operating.

A BIOS flash will usually reset the BIOS to its default settings, so some fan fail warning must have been re-enabled after the BIOS flash and that is probably why you are getting the message.

Alright, so i was looking the inside of the computer and i don't have any fans on the mobo, just all over the case and inside the CPU.

I went into the Bios and went to Hardware monitor, since it didn't have a PC Health menue, and this is where i found the "Cha1 fan speed warning: Disabled" and "Chip Fan speed warning: Enabled" I disabled the Chip Fan warning and the warning went away, but didn't you tell me to leave that one on?

Anyways, according to the bios my cpu was at 39 degrees c And i think the mobo was 33 degrees c

If you don't have fans connected to the MoBo you don't need to monitor the connector.

I was operating under the assumption you were talking about the ASUS A8n-Sli Deluxe, which appears to have active cooling on the chipset (a small fan). You can disable the fan fail warning on the chipset fan if you want, but I wouldn't, those little fans are more likely to croak than anything else. If there are unused fan headers on your motherboard though, you can (and should) disable those. You might want to double check your chipset cooler and make sure it has a fan and that it is functioning properly.

Sounds serious, is their any way i can check if the fans are dead? how do i check the chipset cooler? And if they are dead, what would i do about it?
I wonder why this only occurred after upgrading the bios.

Just turn your computer on and CAREFULLY open the case by removing the side panel and look at the chipset fan in the lower right area of the motherboard. The chipset heatsink/fan is the square silver thing located betweeen the two PCI-Express x16 slots and directly below the RAM slots.

If the fan is spinning then you are good to go. If the fan is not spinning, then you need to figure something out ASAP (like connect it directly to the power supply or find a replacement).
