Always doublecheck that Onboard Sound is set to Enable or Auto in the BIOS. Should be under Integrated Peripherals or similar.

Go into the BIOS, and look for the option called Integrated Peripherals, Onboard Devices, or something along those lines. There you'll see the option for Audio, the options will be Enable/Auto or Disable. You want it to be Enable/Auto, whichever one from the two that BIOS uses.

No, the BIOS won't affect the sound at all....unless you have the onboard sound disabled in the BIOS

Hmm, if you've never been in the BIOS before I don't think it'll be disabled, but it's worth a check anyway.
When the Computer first loads up, before the Windows loading screen. You should see where it says something like "Press Delete to Enter BIOS". Its usually either Delete, ESC, or F8. Press that before it gets to the loading screen for Windows and it'll bring up the system BIOS.

i did notice that something called "nvraid config" and those were disabled, but i didn't know what it was so i left it be.

Alright throwing in the white flag for tonight, guna go sleep hopefully someone can help figure this out

Considering reinstalling windows again, not sure if that will help but.. i don't know what else to do at this point. Feel free to add any ideas or comments.

I don't even see the option to load the drivers for the ALC850 which leads me to believe for what ever reason the system doesn't even see the ALC850 soundcard.. it was working perfectly before the first reformat :-/

nvraid is a RAID hard drive controller, doesn't have anything to do with the sound. If you are not using RAID right now then I wouldn't worry about it.

Try these drivers, it is different than previously posted:

Thanks HL and Corsair!
