As to the problem, it could be many things causing a no boot issue. A signature with your complete system specs would help determine a possible problem. Such as, what brand of power supply are you currently using, brand and specs on the ram that you are using. These are two very possible causes, along with something borked in your operating system. What OS are you using, XP, or Vista?

| I've got a similar problem and I was wondering if you guys can help me out. I'm by no means an expert at all with any computer hardware stuff but if I need to open my computer up and mess with things I'll figure it out. I'm getting the blue screen error right after the XP loading screen. The technical info is: *** STOP: 0x0000008e (oxc0000005, oxbf803eb6, oxf77757c4, 0x00000000) *** win32k.sys - Address BF803eb6 base at bf800000, datestamp 47e0e10 It's a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with all the stock stuff and I've had it for about 3-4 years. Any advice? |

| I am a computer tech with a few years of experience. I customer brought in a computer complained about spyware. I downloaded Bit-Defender, it found 42 viruses/Malware on the computer all were delete. Shut computer down. I replaced ram chip (256) with a 1 gig booted back up and BSOD WIN32k.sys. Same problem couldnt boot into anything. I figure the ram was bad or incompatable. So I switched the old back and rebooted same error. I tried other Ram nothing is working. I have tried changing slots nothing. So now I sit and can't boot into anything. From reading other post sounds like a OS Repair does nothing. And I am trying to avert reformatting as the customer will probably loose info. Any Info will be much appreciated!!!! ![]() |

| I have solved it by booting from an OS Disk ... like WinPE or bart PE ... or my Fav ... Tech182. Cleaning the left over junk from spywares malwares, viruses, and greywares ... and overwriting the win32.sys file. [Registry editing is a must in order to remove legacy registry files.] I'm sure there are a lot of variants to this prob and solutions ... however it has worked for me twice. Main: 3.6ghzE8400, Xigmatek, Asus p5Q45, PC 610W PSU, 4GB 6400, XP Pro, 500GB, 22" + (2)19" WS LCD's w/ Palit 9600 GT, ATI4350 HT, 550Pro, P8600 Notebook. Cambridge # 12 Portable, Rode Podcaster Fios-15mbs Server: 3ghzQ6600 Gemini2, IP35Pro, PC 610W PSU, 4GB DDR2 8000, XP Pro, 250GB, (2) 19" WS LCD, XFX 9600GT, BoomTube Portable XServer: 3ghzQ6600, Nirvana, BloodIron, OCZ 550W PSU, 4GB 6400, XP Pro, 3850, 2X Farm: 3.6ghzE8400, 8800GT, 3Ghz E5200, Gigabyte, P5Bplus, 4Gb, 2GB, XP, XFX. | First off, greetings to you all at the HL forums. Now, onto the matter at hand. A customer came in with a Dell computer a couple of days ago, which refused to boot. Now, I have managed to pinpoint the problem, which is this Win32k.sys BSOD. After running two complete disktests which found no error on the HDD, and a 4h long Memtest86+ which found no errors, I am at my wits end. Have tried booting up from a PE cd, but that usually boots me out, tried entering the recovery console from a WinXP Pro cd, but I'm told that Windows can not load in files. I wonder what's next. Any tips? Oh yea, both the CD and the DVD drive seems to be fubar, only manages to boot from CD every second or third attempt. Dunno if this can be connected somehow but I seriously doubt it. EDIT: About the recovery console thingy. Scratch that, i used a faulty XP cd. Tried a new one, got into the console now. Last edited by Hellreject; September 3rd, 2008 at 04:40. |

| Before all else, welcome to the HL Forums! Next, looking at your problem I would suggest you start a new thread. Provide as much additional information about the system as possible and any specific error codes. A BSOD like that can be rough to solve. I would not totally rule out those opticals as they can cause Windows to hang on boot and throw an error. Have you tried disconnecting them and seeing if you get a good boot? Ron |

![]() Machine is older (2003), and I installed an additional 1GB of RAM two weeks ago (went from 512MB). No problems until two nights ago - Blue Screened - It suggested a Driver problem, and referred me to DELL - the Driver Reinstall program it referenced was no longer at that page. Last night - same thing - this time the win32k.sys problem - and it referenced the RAM situation... Thoughts? If there was a RAM problem, shouldn't it have happened right away (not two weeks later?)... TIA!! Last edited by mcmillb1; October 4th, 2008 at 04:39.

| Modder-ator | Computers are crazy beasts and can seem to throw a fit at seemingly any inconvenient time. Try running Memtest86+ to check for memory errors. Please list all of the components in your computer. Better yet, make yourself a signature please. Welcome to HardwareLogic! ![]() |
