Default Re: Blue Screen error: Win32k.sys

In the system tab, the most recent error was caused by BROWSER.

"The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{168C3824-B786-431F-9B32-78A8E167F080}. The backup browser is stopping."

There was a warning right before it.

"The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master \\SEMPRON on the network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{168C3824-B786-431F-9B32-78A8E167F080}. The data is the error code."

A warning in the Applications tab stated that firefox and the quicktime module that i recently installed caused an error. So quicktime is gone... I never liked it anyway.

Starting with the browser issues this is worth a read:

Troubleshooting browser Event ID 8021 and 8032 on master browsers

I would start by looking at the link in detail. I would also be wary of newly installed software. You have to start somewhere.

Troubleshooting.

- Go through the usual motions of running Memtest, defragging your HDD, checking cable connections

- Recall if you've made any recent hardware or software changes recently. You mentioned Quicktime as being new addition, and if the problem persists after nuking it, is there anything else you can think of?

- Run a chkdsk /x /f /r

- If all else fails, backup your data and go with a fresh Windows install. And if that fails, then you're looking at a hardware issue.

Welcome to HardwareLogic, but is that a question or are you just saying hi? If you have a specific problem, don't be afraid to start your own thread.

Windows XP Professional

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:Help and Support (Help and Support)
Note: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.
everywhere else says different things, mostly pointing to bad memory or a driver or windows itself...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

You can try to reinstall windows without a format and see if that helps but it sounds like your best bet is to take the hard drive out, put it into another computer, backup all the files you want to keep and then format and reinstall windows.
One thing that may help for future usage is to make 2 partitions. 1 that is 10-40GB and the other for the rest of the drive space. Keep the windows install on the 10-40GB and your save files and My Documents and everything else on the D: drive.
