i'm in wardsville, on but i'm in london a lot.

8500 wouldn't be a good choice for a gamer box. it will run but it's not mind blowing. i'd say it's marginally better than my old 6600gt, with dx10 support.

Definitely not a gaming system. Lol.

London is about a 2 hour drive from Toronto, give or take. Unless of course you're talking about London, England.

Vista Home Premium 32-Bit?
Go to the AMD-ATI website, then Drivers & Software > Find a Driver. Then select Vista 32-bit for your operating system, then Integrated/Motherboard, then Radeon X1250. Is that the driver you were downloading?

Are you sure the driver is fully installed (as in you can change the resolution and other different settings in the Catalyst Control Center)?

Yea I found that after lol.

That's the REALLY odd thing. NOTHING INSTALLS.

It goes through the entire installation process, installs find (so it says), I reboot, and nothing has changed. There is no Control Center, no different resolutions under Vista's Display Settings - it's like nothing happened.

That's why I keep inching away from a hardware issues possibility. How can you know if the damn software isn't even working.

I'm really thinking of going with the very stable 7.2 or 7.3 version of the catalyst driver and trying that out. Thoughts?

Edit:

AND when I use the Catalyst uninstall manager to try to uninstall something, it says no components are installed. This means that the installation was simply installing the manager, but no drivers. WTF?

Also, there are no display or video drivers listed in Device Manager.

OOOHHH, the driver won't even complete the install?! I would make sure you've uninstalled all the bits of driver on there and try an older version that still supports that IGP (Radeon X1250).

Oh I just found a file in the driver package that installs as "ATI Vista Display Driver" but needs the Install Manager to work. I'm gonna install the Install Manager now, and try running that program manually to see if it does anything.

This is really horrible if it's the regular procedure of installing ATI drivers.

It's indeed very weird. Well the prompts aren't the problem, but good reminder regardless.

This isn't a major drag anyway, so I can live with it until I get a video card if I must. I'm still, however, going to try my best to figure it out. I'll post some updates here.

BUT this thread is still active! Suggestions are always welcome lol!!!

try loading the drivers that came with the motherboard. even tho they may be older.

for the longest time on my old computer i had a few devices show up in device manager that weren't working.. i didnt know what they were and it didnt affect anything i was doing on the computer.. but for some reason i cant remember one day i installed all drivers off the motherboards disc and all those items in device manager disappeared...

is there anything in your device manager that's showing up but not installed?

usually when you open device manager, if there is such an item... the folder or whatever you want to call it will already be expanded.
