As for the problem, is X-Fire on? starcraft with an 8800 card and xfire causes some real funny problems. I just get a huge black box in the top left and some crazy screen jittering. If its on, try exiting it then playing

Computer: $2000
Monitor: $500
DSL/Cable: $40/month
5.1 Speaker setup: $200

Using your computer to play a game made 10 years ago that could run on a 90mhz processor with 16mb of ram and only required 28.8kb/s for online play: Priceless

Its gameplay that matters . To me, its still one of the fairest RTS games out there. Also it doesnt take you units like 20 minuites to do anything (supreme commander). I do like supreme commander, but its online play isnt great IMHO.

I would have agreed with you that Starcraft is the best RTS ever made, then Company of Heroes was released. It just absolutely, and this is from a starcraft junkie, obliterates starcraft in gameplay, balance, and content.

Hmmm, yes I usually have x-fire on. Maybe that's my problem. I'll give that a try. That black box with the lines and jittering was what I was describing in option 2.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel when it comes to multiplayer with friends. Makes me the idiot for having a good computer =p.

EDIT: Anyway, on the other hand, any suggestions for multiplayer games that don't have massive requirements? I've been playing the counterstrikes based on HL 1, Quake III, and Starcraft.

Age of Empires 2 is always fun. Then there is the mother of all shooters, Tribes, which is free!

You could look for day of defeat or team fortress classic, those are good hl1 mods.

I still need to beat company of heroes though.... I was really into until I played world in conflict.

Now that game blew my mind. I really need to play it more.

Yeah, I've got Age II. We've been playing Age III when we had the computers that could run it. We're down to two computers that can possibly run that game, and they're both mine >.< They tend to dislike Age II, being they've been spoiled on Age III, which they think is better for superficial reasons.

I haven't showed them tribes yet. I'll look in to it.

And by the way, it was indeed XFire that was crashing my system. What's ironic is that I had tried selective startup. I disabled EVERYTHING from running at startup, thinking it WAS a program conflict. I would then run XFire to speak to the buddy across the way, then would run Starcraft. Then I'd see that it still didn't work with "no" other programs running.*slaps self* Chalk another up to stupidity. Thanks Qazwsx
