Or just use Vista's Disk Management Utility to resize the partition on the HDD and install Linux in the free space. You can always reformat that partition and expand Vista's again later.

Now that I think about it, it might have said alittle more than 2 gigs.... I will have to get back on the computer to double check the exact number..... sorry about that, guess I should have paid a little more attention.....

ill post back with the amount showing...

Remember, RAM isn't the only thing that takes up addressing space - so does cache on the CPU and other things.

His vid cards take up 1.5 GB, his cache will take up a little bit more, PCI slots a little bit more - and you have your number. I'd imagine it'll end up being something like 2.2 or 2.3 GB being used.

If the memory is not addressable by the system it is in fact just sitting there unused, I believe.

2GB really is the 32 bit sweet spot - I wouldn't want to go triple SLI or quad crossfire on a 32 bit rig, since that would likely put you below 2GB of RAM. At that point just for that purpose alone I'd go 64 bit.

OcciferPrime Specifications:

4 GB OCZ Fata1ty DDR2-800
WD Raptor 74 GB | WD Caviar SE 80 GB
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W
Win XP Pro SP2

Very good post. I agree with you it would be pretty darn useless to go triple SLI under a 32bit OS. :)

Thanks!

How much you want to bet someone will? Not anyone around here though, we're too smart for that!

I'm going to get a diagram that from a guy on another forum that shows the relationship very well - it gets posted about once a week over there!

Edit: here it is:

I recommend switching to a 64-Bit OS be it XP or Vista. 4GB of ram makes programs and games alot FASTER, in loading time and it also makes the general experience faster and smoother..

Again a quality post and a very useful diagram. I'll save it, I feel like I'll need that as people upgrade to big video cards and all. :)

Well im looking into it..... My brother just purchased a new computer and he recieved both Vista Ultimate 64bit aswell as the 32 bit version..... I asked him if I could install the 64 bit version and he didn't mind, but he's not sure if I can regester it since he's already got it regestered.... He says he loves the 64 bit version of Vista..... says he hasn't had any problems... although he's not into the programs part of computer, but more so gaming...

again, again, and again.... thanks so much for the help.... i think if there was a prize around here for the guy that asks the most questions.... i think i'd have a chance at winning it!!! LOL...

Brad
