Like Blake said it really works best if you know the family either directly or indirectly, and your able to deliver the computer to the family in person. It gives the project a more personal feel. A family that is in need that you know from work, school, church, your neighborhood, or friends of friends is a good start. These are just suggestions, no one is exempt from being a candidate, the only requirement is that they have a need for a computer.

This is not an official request, this is just a heads up as I have sent some PMs to see if people have a few parts.
I have requested a few pieces for my 19 year old brother (will be 20 tomorrow Oct 29). He moved out of my parents house over a year ago and moved to Montana. Since then it has been one rough spot after another for him and his girlfriend. Even with him having 2 jobs and her 1, they are still having a tough time surviving.
So for a Christmas present, I have a system here that has been a testing machine for various stuff, different OS's, whatever I needed to test. He loves some games like CS:S and older games but he can't play anything newer than CS 1.6 right now with his current system that I also redid for him about the time he moved out. It is a Celeron 800MHz with 512MB PC100 and a MX440 video card.
The system I have as it sits now:
Biostar T-Force6100-939 mobo
Athlon64 3000+
Hercules 450W PSU (testing it now, if it is bad then I have the Antec 450W that came out of my SonataII case)
CD burner/DVD read drive
Decent cheaper case
The memory I am testing but it is only 512MB PC3200 (2x256) and one test saw
one stick bad so I would like to get 1GB for it.
Also tossing in a SB sound card I have had sitting around here...

I did have one very gracious offer from simple_inhibition but I did have to turn it down as this is more of a personal project rather than helping some poor family that had their house split in half by a air force jet or whatever...

i have a 5500 NVidia Card, i never used still new from the egg... its just sitting in my pile of junk... its working 100%... add it please...

hoopty project will be great...

i'm still mutilating my rig up to this moment, i havent run my h2o... as soon as i get it running i'll post a lot of pix and some sad story about me and my power tools...

Perhpas we should contact an agency to see who they feel would be a good candidate?
I know that many social service angencies work with families to get them computers etc for kids.
We can look a few up and see if they are willing to work with us on this..
Maybe we can even get some of the larger companies to chip in?
