How long have you had the drive? I think you said you bought it online? Once you found out about the "touch" thing, has it always behaved this way?
Ok, haven't tried that yet!!! I mean turning it on! Will try that

Holy crap, your right!!!
I was laying my finger on the switch, just like you would to turn it off, but turning it on is a whole different ball game!!! Like you said, just pass your finger over the switch, and it comes on!!!! Awesome man!!!!!!!!!!

I think this qualifies as one of the rare moments that I have actually helped someone here with something useful - even if it was only about how to turn the thing on, LOL!

I'm glad I could help. Of course I still understand full well the frustration you have been having on that point.

Maybe it will appear in the documentation for the next model. I don't know if there's a 1TB model yet, but that would be it, I guess.

Any updates for this model tried? Seems the regular models have open downloads, the Pro's have you email them.

Have issues while the drive is on eSATA on all PC's. The software is blind that it's there, and only allows it to be seen while on USB or Firewire. It's only through the software though and not regular "My Computer" behavior which is normal.

Would like it to sleep and all that while on eSata. Think that's a software issue or something I should set up in the BIOS?

Hmmm, Don't know for sure on the eSata, I have mine just run with the damn USB, as the drive didn't come with the eSata cable. Have you tried sharing just one file on the drive to see if any other computer see it?

Damn, haven't checked on any downloadabable updates on the drive. I started with the included software, but got rid of all of that crap in a hurry and am just using the drive as a external drive. Not sure on firmware though, will check it out

Is your BIOS SATA/eSATA set to AHCI or compatibility (acts like IDE)?
For sleep, plug n pray and that fancy stuff, you need AHCI.

Ok, got it...AHCI needs enabled, but read it didn't need to be. It's just like an internal drive in that those actual S/ATA features aren't available until AHCI is enabled. It's not a problem enabling it since it's not the boot drive. Enabled, the software sees it, sleeps, does all that cool stuff S/ATA should do...even USB like Hotswapping. Just turn it off though before pulling the plug. Wrote some bad sectors.

The Non-pro software stinks on the pro version though. Just got a patch from Seagate via email, but haven't tried it yet...just walking in and don't want to bork the darn thing.

Highly advise anyone with eSata to just enable AHCI and go. It just took a nap as I type...coolio!

We just use ours as an external backup, so using the USB isn't so much an issue. Ours didn't come with an eSATA cable either, but I don't have an eSATA hookup anyway. I suppose I could put one in, but since it's only for backups, it doesn't matter.
