exactly but what they probably dont realize is they if they took a big enough chunk of the microsoft market then they would probably make more money. A way to test it would be putting out a universal scaled-down version of OS X and test the waters... This way they would still leave their full version ONLY on Macs. But whatever....

True but their OS would make up for that loss and then you would see game makers make their games compatable with OS X.

Yep and even if they only took about 10% of microsofts profits, that amount of money would not be lost in computer sales. 10% of microsoft OS profits is A LOT, and they could actually shoot for more, maybe as much as 25%, especially if companies like Dell were behind them...

Yeah, it is a lot. And Dell will probably be the first to back them up. They'd probably have to offer both than just be exclusive.

if you want the best of both worlds, grab a mac and install vista using Boot Camp. no, all the bugs arent worked out yet, so be patient, and the time shall come.

the other reason why i would never get a mac is because, as said, PRE-BUILT...i cant STAND IT!!! but, at the same time, it would be more ideal to get OSX fully stable on a PC. that would be bomb.

now, if ONLY, after THAT happens, OSX can FULLY support games like WINDOWS does. 100% the most ultimate OS if that were to happen.

enthusiasts like us can only dream that microsoft can make something as good as apple in certain senses...or of Mr apple man could make OSX run decent games...

anyway, enuff of the daydreaming :D

Macs will never be become popular simply because the gaming industry does not support the Mac. Even Linux does not support gaming as to why it only has a small role in everyday life. It is quite funny really. I also see the Mac ads. But yet they are not willing to get the game makers to release Mac OS versions of games. Untill then, we are STUCK with Microcrap. Besides, IF Macs were to grow more popular, they will see just how unsecure their OS really is as it will get the same amount of attention as Windows from hackers, virus writers and adware co.

You can compare the 2 OS's all day long. But untill Mac's are gaming/modding friendly, there is no comparision.

Thumbs up Re: Mac OS X Leopard vs. Windows Vista

The other problem with Mac being released to a general hardware market is that there is no way they are going to be able to keep their trade mark stability. the Mac OS runs on a set number of machines with a set number of hardware configurations. It is much easier to create a kernel that is going to work with the drivers and remain stable. You open up the flood gates and you start to experience the problems that the Windows has been going through. You have to admit that XP is a whole lot better than Windows 95 when it comes to drivers though, so Microsoft has made some progress, even if they had a lot of help from the hardware manufactures.

Now regarding Macs as gaming computers, you can game, there just is not a lot out there. Blizzard has been making Mac versions of their software for years, so it is not unheard of. There is no way that I would get a Mac as my primary computers. Now as a Laptop for travel when I am working and not gaming, maybe. I guess a question is how much VPN/Security support is there for Mac?

Interesting article. You should look to post it at a site that is more of the articles target.

Yeah, I had a Mac blog, but my loser partner shut it down without telling me (and me noticing).

I might bring it back up sometime.

Your article is very well written, and like I said there are people that need Macs. If you are a video editor, you can do some cool stuff with a mac. My B-I-L has a Mac and he makes some pretty nice videos with it. He spent a month turning all my families, home video and pictures in to an hour long video. I was impressed.

There is another issue that stops Apple from going more pluic with their OS. Right now their big claim to fame is that they are more bullet proof in security and stability than Windows.

As soon as you make the Mac OS mainstream it will become a larger target for malware creation. Also right now the tight control on software created for the AMC means that Apple can force companies to write the software to their very tight specifications. Something BTW that MS is being critized for trying to do in Vista. With the strict guidelines dropped they would then have many of the compatability and glitch issues Vista faces and their bullet proof OS would prove to be more of the same.

The real STRENGTH right now of the M<ac OS is that Apples keeps a deathgrip on the control of the OS and applications made for it. This stranglehold on coding means the OS runs smoother because the companies creating software have less freedom. Now I agree this is a GOOD thing as it creates stability. however since MS is getting hammered for trying the same thing Apple would risk a serious PR hit if it went public and this control was made more widely known.
