That said, everyone has their own little - I call mine paranoid superstitions - habits when they work on things. Most (like unplugging for a day) are rooted in the days when parts weren't made to the tolerances we have now and can't hurt what you're doing or more importantly, hurt you.
Yes but, any GOOD PSU should at least have a drain resistor, or some kind of component to drain whats left in the capacitors.

They do have drain resistors. Now, let us suppose that the cap is a 1000mF cap and the resistor is 200K W - the resistor should drain the cap in roughly 20 minutes when the cap is fully charged. The fan spinning down is going to discharge the vast majority of the cap and the drain is going to finish it of in less than 10 minutes.

Again, leave it unplugged overnight if it makes you warm and fuzzy. It isn’t going to hurt anything. And, it is safe. I was not trying to slam you or anything, just point out that waiting overnight will not really gain you anything and that we all have our little superstitions when dealing with electricity.

Yes, I know most PSUs caps get nearly completely drained within a few minutes, but with the hundreds of different PSUs out there, you never know

Well all I can say is that my PSU I used was modded seconds after running (dose 250W sound new?) and I have used my method on several PSU's.

AM I DEAD YET???

I am not trying to say shove your hand in to your PSU whilst its running I’m just saying that maybe we are sometimes to careful.

Well, he is right in a way. You never know with cheaper power supplies and like said before it doesn't hurt to let it there for a day. :)

no one was arguing that.......but there is a reason PSU manufacturers tell people not to disassemble their power supplies, because there is always the chance of residual juice in the caps
