On a related note, you'll want to either run 4 instances of RTHDRIBL, or one at full screen for near 100% GPU utilization. I usually do the former, as the full-screen tends to be inconsistent, bouncing anywhere from 80% to 95ish%.

Testing with 4 instances of rthdribl as we speak, 1000mhz ram speed, gpu at 740mhz. Seems to be running at about 48c right now. I'm gonna let this run for about 30 minutes and see what happens.

Well, it hasn't crashed yet, looks like the temp hit 49c for a little while though...can't complain about that though, lol.

Got one more bathroom to clean though, we'll see if it's still going after that.

Edit, no crashing with 4 copys of rthdribl running, gonna let it run with the core set to 760mhz for a whiel, see if we get any crashing. If that's ok, then it's time to fire up crysis.

EDIT 2: 760was too much, lol. back to 740, I'm gonna be happy with that.

Theburan, consider supplementing RTHDRIBL with 3DMark06 and/or a game or three. What you're looking for is artifacts, freezing, or even reduced framerates (compared to a previous OC), which are all indicators of instability. When I review a videocard, stress testing to find the highest OC is usually the most time consuming part of the process.

I'm not a big fan of the pads either, but do be advised that removing them could do more than harm than good. Many (not all) of the stock coolers take into account the width of the pads, and replacing them with thermal paste could result in insufficient or even no contact at all between the heatsink and RAM.

So far, running the crysis gpu demo is turning out to be the best sign of whether the system is stable or not. I'll update again once I narrow things down.

This is very cool. Keep us updated!

BTW, what are you using to OC the GT?

So, I'm settling on a gpu clock of 720mhz, and a memory clock of 950mhz for now, not getting any crashed or anything with the crysis demo now. I'll run a few more tests later just to make sure it's stable, but it's looking good right now.

And I'm rivatuner 2.06.

This is a problem I encountered on my 8800GTS, a gap between the RAM contact areas and the RAM chips themselves. Tiny enough to be hardly noticeable, but enough of one where replacing the thermal pads with TIM would leave the RAM not contacting the sink at all. Looks to be the the same for all the G80 based coolers, as well. Not too sure on the stock coolers of the G92 based ones, but since they're about the same I would assume so.
