Might seem simple, but along the same lines as using Ctrl + X, Ctrl + C, and Ctrl + V, using the Shift and/or Ctrl keys while single left clicking is a great way to fine tune selections whether it be in windows explorer or within some program like excel or whatever.

For anyone using Photoshop, this simple tip might come in handy.

When for example using the Curves dialog, you make some adjustments and want to revert to the original settings, hold the ALT key and the Cancel button will change to Reset.
This works on most of the other PS dialogs.

Favorite tip of all time that I got from One4yu2c - Windows explorer opens in "C" instead of "My Documents". This is especially helpful if you're like me and use windows explorer to navigate you're drives.
I keep this on all of my thumb drives in notepad, every computer gets set up like this before I back it up for the 1st time.

Start In default - %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%

Change to:
Target Line - %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, /e, c:\

Another tip is to fix all of my USB root hubs to not turn them off to save power in the control panel / device manager. I also check the network adapters.

One of my pet-peeves is the balloon popups down by the clock so any new install in my house gets a registry edit to take care of that. As follows:

Start > Run > regedit > Enter >

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced\

Right-click in the right pane, create a new DWORD value and name it EnableBalloonTips

Then double-click on that new entry, give it a hexadecimal value of 0 (zero)

Then just quit the Registry Editor, Log off windows and log back on...

Good one PrOLifIC!...I hate those damn pop-ups...

Here are two programs that really help with general upkeep and protection, and that I've found useful on more than one occasion: CC Cleaner and Driver Cleaner Pro

For those who don't know, CC Cleaner is a registry cleaner and really helps root out those bits and pieces of all that software you deleted over time, and it also prompts you to backup any changes you make within the program and scans your system for issues within the registry.

Driver Cleaner Pro is for when you need to do a fresh install of your ATI/nVidia drivers. It scrubs your HD, ridding it of any fragments of the old driver install. It also has options for Razer drivers, and several others. Comes in really handy when you buy that new GPU, especially when switching manufacturers.

WD Raptor 74GB SATA

Ok, I don't know how many of you guys use the Windows Built in Disk Cleanup program but if you do, you've probably encountered this problem before.

It usually happens if you have a massive build up of temporary files and crap and the disk cleanup tries to estimate how much space you can save by compressing it. This takes FOREVER and no one really cares about compression because you lose performance by doing so.

Simple solution that involves going into the registry and editing some entries.
Quote:
1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2.In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{B50F526 0-0C21-11D2-AB56-00A0C9082678}
3.On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.
4.Quit Registry Editor.
I put this tweak on just about every computer I build or run.

So, I'm confused, does it disable it then?
