added the following to the original post:

LCD PRO's
-ease of portability (i.e. - Lanparties)
-Many LCD's now come with extras (height adjustable, physical screen rotation, USB ports, speakers, etc).

LCD CONS
-dead pixel possibility
-Limited viewing angles (varies)

CRT CONS
-No rotation adjusments & no height variability built in

I would add something else to the CRT cons as well:

-they cause excessive eye strain, and can cause vision problems over a long period of time

-they also emit more radiation than LCD's

-CRT picture tubes are made up of some environmentally damaging (I think) components that can damage the atmosphere when the tube is ruptured......same with standard TV's.

just something I heard about CRT's

Another con I thought of for LCDs:

Backlight is irreplacable and gets dimmer over time. The half life for older monitors (c. 2001) were around 3 years. Currently, I think they're around 5 or 6 years. The backlight can also burn out completely, but I have never witnessed this.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of LCDs. My LCD is about 5 years old. It's about half as bright as it used to be after a cold start, but after about 10 minutes, it seems to be about 80% as bright as it was when it was new.

Just trying to be thorough. :)

I got my LCD 3 years ago and while it may be a little tiny bit dimmer, I don't really notice any difference. It still looks just as bad now as it did 3 years ago!

Actually, according to the research I did, CRT's are supposed to have shoter lifespans. Even though the LCD's may dim, they are still usable.

Yeah, I mean, if the backlight doesn't burn out, it'll last indefinitely. It'll just keep getting dimmer and dimmer. Even when that happens, you're right, they're still usable. But sometimes the backlight does actually burn out after a few years. If that happens, there's nothing you can do.
