lol. For sure. Hes getting an expensive rig next year once the summer is over since were gonna get some part time jobs. Hopefully something to do with computers for some decent cash.

I might put linux on it tommorrow since his comp is not suited for xp.

The reason why pentium D is performing so poorly is because they didn't make a decent program for it, well that is what i heard(maybe it will come out in another year maybe a lot less)...not entirely sure.

what do you mean by there is no decent program for it?

In general, Intel has always beat out AMD in encoding and most multimedia applications. And just because AMD is usually better in gaming, that doesn't mean intel sucks at it. I've seen tons of Intel cpus beat out their AMD equivalents by alot.

I have to agree, however, where AMD is crushing Intel is on memory latency and some other things I don't quite understand, lol.......AMD has an on-die memory controller for their 90nm processors, thus greatly reducing memory latencies and increasing performance, not to mention AMD has delivered on their products, whereas Intel (from what I understand) has had to cancel some processors in the past that were originally on their roadmap......BTW, though this game favors the X2, I think it would benefit from Pentium D as well: Quake 4. Quake 4 is one of the few games currently I've found to truly use both cores during gaming, making the overall gaming experience rich and worthwhile.

Personally, I can't wait to see what AMD will have to offer with socket AM2 with concerns to processing power. Sure, they'll be using DDR2 with socket AM2, but I wonder what kind of FSB we can expect with the mainstream processor line in this socket type. I wish Intel the best as well, but I wish AMD just that little bit more, lol

just a personal opinion

I think marketing makes a huge difference. AMD has targeted people in the 16-24 yr range..... mostly gamers. This represents probably the most vocal segment of computer users. So any time you go to a website or forum, you see people raving about AMD and bagging on Intel.
I think that if you sat down a person and didn't tell them what system they were playing on, they probably couldn't tel the difference while actually using the system (without knowing the actual components)
Intel made some big mistakes with the P$ when it released the Prescott, the chip never lived up to the hype and was literally a blast furnace at stock speeds. Another issue is memory, Intel jumped onto the DDR2 bandwagona full year earlier than AMD, while DDR2 was in its infancy...... while I applaud them for trailblazing, it is just now that DDR2 is really showing its benefits....... just in time for AMD to adopt it.
I'm excited to see what Intel has planned for the second half of 2006, I think people will be surprised. I also think that for everyday usage, Intel is not a bad choice....the Pentium D 9XX is a pretty nice processor line.

I guess it's one of those processor makers you have to kinda fall into after being an AMD fanboy, right? Like I said, I'm more than willing to try an Intel product when they come out with the next gen stuff, like you said later in the year........But for now, considering what I have sitting in my bedroom right now, I'm inclined to go with AMD, lol
