| F Ucn rd dis U mst uzUNIX | I had started a rant in the Lounge here and figured I'd copy, paste, and continue it here. Just something a bit personal, why I'm here, and all that fun stuff. It's border line blog/resume...so felt it needed all lain out here in one place. It stems from a recent tornado thread: ---------- So, this is also a window as to why I post in forums, and in the future why I'm posting here (and in so many words) more than I have. It's what I do, and when I want to feel normal, I come to places like this. I had a friendly and understanding home, but it seems to be not so understanding lately on the human on the other end. I'm not digital, I'm a fallible being with emotions and opinions. I have something to tell, and love a great discussion. All my friends are here, and I feel more at home. I just want to talk about something, and what I know isn't popular knowledge. To ya'll not knowing of Chumly, I'm an MPC long time member (Boot, Delphi, and the current forums). I'm a Navy Vet, Ex-Chief, deployed 5 times "on-ship" (5 scheduled, spec ops not counted), educated with a degree in EE (Kansas State, Ohio State, SDSU, and Razorback U), worked for 3Dfx (intern and theses, so Master IMO but not logged), nVidia (very short), GE, AMD, Intel, and now totally out of that field and doing a trades thing...at power plants. Back to Gas Turbines; They listen at least. In my personal life, I've been a motor man by hobby all my life. Has an engine, I love it! My dad was big in this aspect, who was under Smokey Yunick after the Vietnam conflict where he was a Helo pilot, and started Lenco in Lemon Grove, Ca on his first venture. I was plopped on a Suzuki JR50 when I was just learning to walk (and have a scar on my forehead from that first ride), and haven't stopped the bike's wheels from turning. I was a privateer in the now dead 125cc and 250cc AMA divisions, moved to Erion racing on a then first 600cc stride, replaced by a MotoGP champ, and hadn't done much since besides rider's schools. In the last two years I've been a state side tester for DucatiUSA and MV and that's keeping me busy in my "free" times. I'm a rare Renascence Man in this day and age, and generically label myself as a Jack of Trades. I always have something to do for someone else, and the last thing I hold as my own are my computer room and poker nights with the guys. I came here, as stated, with all intent of just talking about stuff...giving the suggestions more than advice; point/counter-point. I get a kick out of spark of interest! I see more interest here than I do anywhere else, so I want to be here among the living. I love the user input and all that. When you cross me, please understand that, from all of this I just wrote out, I do not relate the commonly read knowledge that is out there on the internet to read. I read it, disagree, and move on. Oh, and I also play guitar. Musicman and a Gibson SG. I started with a trumpet, fiddle with drums, and can play the Sax, Oboe, and Jazz/blues piano. I dumb it waaaay down by playing guitar as my side arm as choice. When I need emotion, I go the forum...or the rack. I either need to talk to people, or talk to myself. Now I hope it's understood! |
