| Hi Today: Ain't that funny? You gotta laugh.. There isn't too many things to laugh about these days in the world.. I'm being told in no uncertain terms , with the places I deal with.. We are unable to work at your pace for very much longer.. We're leaving you in the Dust.. See ya.. ![]() Anyway, I was unable to retrieve my mail this morning.. My server was "Down".. The server I connect to is at Dalhousie University here in the Big Downtown.. (Math Department).. They are a great bunch of Numbers Guys, over there.. They count every byte that comes-and-goes.. It was a seven hour power outage.. The campus power was upgraded so NO Internet Connection.. Then to mail service wouldn't work after the power was restored.. It's Murphy's Law.. Sorry Gents.. for gettin' O.T.. Computers can always find ways to make you look like an idiot.. Well.. Bill.. CPU:1.2 ghz. Board:ASUS CUSL2c 815 chip set Memory:512 meg. Maybe that many of your customers are on dialup because you offer dialup? I used to work for a phone company that offered dialup/DSL/VoIP as well, and most of our customers were dialup customers - but that doesn't mean that the same percentage of internet users in the town are dialup. ![]() Join us on the unofficial HL IRC Channel! | Hi Gents: I'll get a thread going.. on this LAN issue.. I promise.. I have to "SPEC" this Studio ASUS/Intel P-4 Dual Boot Machine.. It has very much the same Hardware in it except that one of the Audio Cards in this one has the Lecicon CORE-32 audio card in one of the PCI Slots.. It only works on the '98SE Dask.. NO Drivers for the XP Home Desk.. I have issues with this machine that could very well be why the LAN doesn't work the way it should.. I may not have been be clever enough to figure it all out when I originally built the Boot Drives.. I'd like to preserve the "Boot Builds" as opposed to wiping them (the Boot Drives) and starting all over again.. I like this gif/icon... Think of me as the guy behind this keyboard.. ... Anyway.... Telephone and Cable suppliers offer Hi-Speed here. We're not Short of any of this stuff over here.. They want their customers to invest in a package that includes their CELL Phones, Internet Access, Home Phones with Long Distance rates.. and All.. We have all of the services.. However, the people don't talk very much about these monthly fees.. If you pinch them about what they pay then they say.... BUT.... we have .. this-and-that added to the service.. to cover up monthly charges that could be as high as maybe $200.00 a month.. Think about IT.. Are any of you old enough to remember when a phone line to the outside world cost you $10.00 a month?? Well, you had to pay for your Long Distance Calls.. But..... Bill.. CPU:1.2 ghz. | Functional Alcoholic | It is impossible to keep up with technology, it just moves way to fast. However if your forced to use windows 98 due to driver issues, it sounds like you have gotten way too far behind. I suggest upgrading so you can at least use WinXP. As far as High Speed internet goes, some people can get away with dialup, but it doesn't sound like you're one of those people. Look into the lower priced packages available. I know most places offer DSL for around $40 (sometimes cheaper) a month starting price. |

| On a serious note, if you know that using dial up or older operating systems are affecting your business then it would make sense to take the dive and upgrade. I'm not really sure how your internet connection speed affects your business but if high speed is going to help, then maybe its time to get on the bandwagon. |

| Hi Gentlemen: I agree with your replies 110%.. That aspect takes no convincing on my end.. In the Audio world 180 days begins to stretch the technical end of the Hardware Spectrum.. I'd like to say that I have the creativity of a 25-30 year-old.. But, at my age the ears are saying something different.. The fact-and-reality is, the economics of me investing resources for another six month extension is something that's difficult for me to imagine.. ... It was a major decision /move for me to go beyond TAPE.. You see.. I still think like a 22 year old.. Well.. That's what I think.. Anyway, I'm into several days of being Virus and Malware and Adware FREE now.. (so-far-so-good).. My machines appear to be settling in again.. AND their BIOS's are appearing to be stable.. I think I may have to do some minor adjustments to the Panda Config. Panel.. to refine Panda to my setup.. Thank You to those of you up here that pointed me to the Panda application.. I'm intrigued as to why some of the mail I know I should get ends up in my Server's Junk Mail Folder.. Maybe, it's not Panda that doing that?? BUT That's only been happening sense the Trojan hit me.. | Modder-ator | Junk mail filters are never perfect, it is very hard to avoid false positives. As to why it is happening more after the Trojan infestation, I really don't know. The best you can do is to try and edit your safe or allowed list to include known good e-mail address domains. |
