Well, here's a quick little update for tonight. I'm just too damn excited about this project to let these fresh new pictures go un-posted!

Here we have the drive support rails drafted onto the paper backing of the 3/16" flourescent green acrylic:
Click the image to open in full size.
The smaller, more square one on the left is for the two optical drives (there will be two of the rails, one for each side of the drives). The longer rectangular one on the right will be used to hold the two HDD's together (only one piece will be cut and used).

Here is how the drives will be spaced:

The HDD's will have 1.5cm inbetween and will be mounted on their edge in the case. The optical drives will have only a 6mm gap and be mounted flat like they usually are in cases. I hope to get the rails all cut out, drilled, and installed tomorrow :D

Nice Job Blake!!! The measuring looks very precise.

What is the plate you have in the second picture?

I'm not really sure, to be honest. It's some sort of clay coaster/trivet type thing. I think it's just decorative. I'm home at my mom's house, so I'm not really sure what all this wierd stuff is sometimes HAHAHA
The coin laying on it though is a nickel, which is what I used as a template for rounding the corners of the drive rails :)

Looks good.

Hmm, your cutting on marble. Make sure you don't scratch it. :smt046

No, I'm not cutting on the marble top! :P
I just put the piece there to take the pictures; I will be going to my dad's house tomorrow and taking advantage of the 50 foot workbench space for all my cutting and construction needs

Haha. I know, I'm just busting your balls.

How exactly did you get the holes so precise.

LOL, how do you know they are precise? All the marks only look good at this point :P
But seriously though, I just used a mechanical pencil and a metal ruler. You just have to know exactly how it is going to be layed out and make sure you are measuring the holes and lines from the correct sides/angles. The true test will be if I can cut them out and have them look this good. As the saying goes, "measure twice, cut once!"
