Heh, if I were to seriously sell this case no one would buy it because it is pretty obvously hand made (some slight workmanship imperfections here and there) and like you said, there is so much time put into it that the price would be way too high for what it really is. I'm not even sure how much money I would charge for it (probably because I don't think I would ever sell it anyway). The only way I would be able to sell something like this is if I included all the accessories with it (like custom fans, fan controllers, switches, temp monitors, etc.

A tip for tapping. Use a block of plastic, wood or metal. Drill a straight hole thru it on a drill press the size of the tap. This will work as a guide when hand tapping to get straight threads. I must say though your tap looked like it was fairly straight.

Oh, that's a good idea, I never thought of that! I was indeed careful to keep it as straight as possible and I went really slow, backing it out half way through to clear the chips.

Default July 18th Update!

Finally got a little more work done on the case. It is an extremely slow process trying to juggle a full time job, writing reviews, eating, sleeping, and having a little fun. Slowly but surely this case is still coming together though!

First up is the handle I have chosen to mount on the top of the case. I found it at Home Depot but it only came in silver:

So I have to paint it gloss black:

Unfortunately just after the first coat went on, the wind blew the box over that was holding the freshly painted handle and it got dirt all over it. So I wiped off the dirt and let it dry. Just tonight I sanded it down and put another good coat of paint on and it looks MUUUUCH better. I think it will turn out very nice.

While the paint was drying, I killed the rest of my night by drilling the mounting holes for the drives:

The drives are secured with a motherboard standoff and then a screw through the bottom panel of the case in to the standoff...

Very, very sweet Blake!!!!! I can't wait to see the finished product. I can sure dig the fact of it taking a long time, holding a full time grind and all.

Just keep up the good work and keep us all posted man :D

I really like how you hung the handle when you were painting it. I feel your pain about the dirt and misc. crap landing on it. Some wet sanding were gets it off though.

Looks good. Painting is a pain without a paint booth. I've hung parts on the inside of a box before to cut down on the debris getting on them.

another great place for painting small parts, is grab one of them, oh you know, styrofoam coolers that is every where during the summer. Use the lid to paint the item on, and then put the bottom over the top. Not only does it keep the dust and crap off, but it also alows the paint to flow and tack better. It really works great :P
