Oh man, don't tell me that! I'm used to my small town population of 1,200 people where we don't even have a real traffic light and I can walk to work every day.

Made it over a major hurdle this weekend, finally got all the designs cut out and installed. Last one was the top panel design, but the first step was to make the 120mm fan hole...

Then I traced in and cut out the opening for the design:

And installed the frame, mesh, and orange acrylic:

Here are some pictures of all the designs installed:

After that was finished, I had some time left to get back to work on the front panel. This time I started the openings for the optical drives:

The slots are just big enough for the tray alone to fit through:

I am going to make another piece that screws to the end of the tray and fits over the hole on the outside of the front panel so it will be nice and stealthed when it is all assembled. But that means I still need to wire up and mount a remote eject button somewhere (still thinking about how I want to do that though). See you next week!

my town has too many stop-lights (there are three sets within the sapce of 500m

anywho

with the drive button, on the stealthed drives on PC's ive worked with, its normally something thats sprung (so it returns to its normal position) that pushes on the normal drive button. alternatively, you could super glue some sort of rod to the normal button. either way, its gonna be really fidly.

very nice so far tho, keep it up :D

Yeah, I was originally going to do some kind of mechanical way of ejecting the drive, but like you said, it would be pretty fidly. I don't think the remote eject button will be too hard since I can just use a regular momentary switch (like a power or reset button) and solder it on the bottom side of the drive's PCB. I'm thinking of using one of these and wiring up the read/write access LED to it so I have that output too (I just need to get over the cost).

what about drilling a small hole, im talking like no bigger than 1/4 of an inch (no bigger than the size of a regular #2 pencil eraser), then take a plastic rod and glue it to the eject button with some testors model glue (get the red tube, infinitely many times better than the blue tube). you could then get a piece of aluminum or whatever and place it on top of the rod to stealth the button to the front panel. if it doesnt make sense, ill draw some pics up in paint lol

I think I get what you're saying. That's actually a pretty good idea, I don't know why I never thought of that. I had come up with every elaborate system of mounting an eject button except for that idea!

I'll definitely keep that in mind though, its a good idea.

or if you dont like the idea of cutting a pencil eraser sized piece of aluminum for the rod cover, you could take some thin black rubber, mount it to a washer thats bigger than the hole and mount it over the eject button (probably have to use glue). just make sure your ejection rod is slightly through the hole (wow that reads so horribly) i think something like 1/8 or 3/16 of an inch would be more than enough
