Thanks Blake. It was actually hard. I did the original cutting with a hand saw in a miter box. Even the curves: I cut the corners in a 45 degree angle. Then to sand the corners, I used the sanding bit on my drill (it's so useful!). For the backstand, I got really tired to sawing and used the electric miter saw.

Cutting the hole on the inside was a royal pain. It took the longest.

No, I didn't. I should of, after going through all the work. It's a bit short. The iPod stands up by itself when the connector's in, but the dock won't stand even.

Very nicely done! I'm impressed! I've never been very good with wood working...mechanics has always been my strong suit. Plumbing, electricals, mechanics, I can do. Cutting wood?

*Quakindude couldn't cut wood straight if his life depended on it.*

Maybe use a router bit to carve a channel for the USB cord so it runs out the back of it?

I so wish I had a router. It would had made this thing a lot easier. I made a little ghetto stand thing on the bottom that I'm gonna glue so I can dock. It looks decent, so I'm satisfied. The actual problem with docking is that the dock connector wont go all the way into the iPod due to the plastic thing. I may have to ghetto-cut the plastic thing.

****ing A!!!

I just glued the bottom stand to the wrong side. I didn't hold it down right on the miter saw (to take it off) and I chipped it. On top of that, I lost the backstand. I don't know where the hell it is.

I'm back to the drawing board again. ****! I'm so pissed.

I know, but I'm just so mad. I just spent another 40 minutes in the workshop trying to make another one, but I borked that one too. I did try to use filler on the original one, which wouldn't let me be able to use stain because it will look like crap. The bottom of the original one would need some major sanding to look nice and to fit the plastic thing. Oh yeah, and the chip from the miter saw is visible still.

And I still can't find the damned backstand. ARG!

I'm sure some of you know how it feels to spend so much time on something and then just screw up. I do it so much it's not even funny. I spent a total of 4 hours on the first one, then about an hour on the second one. I killed the second one quickly, probably because I was so freakin' pissed.

GOD, I wish I started thinking before I took the misglued piece to the miter saw. If I thought it out, I could have used the hand saw and then be able to sand off the glue. Or I could have just flipped it over and sanded the bottom to perfection. I just wasn't thinking because I was so pissed.

DAMN!

Default iPod Stand No. 3!

OK, this one I finished and looks great as well! Nothing regretted here! I just need to stain it (cherry oak sounds like a good idea, but I have to see what I have). Without further ado, the pics!

There's the hole where the plastic thing sits. It's not a pretty sight.Click the image to open in full size.

Must have the song "Come to Me" by Diddy, as I did with the other pictures! I need to clean the iPod...

This is how it looks docked. I just stuck it in there. It stays in by the weight, which is dandy. It does take an angle though, but I don't mind.

Get a drill and drill a little channel out of the bottom so the wire will run out of it and it will sit flat. kinda like this /-\.

I know what you mean, but if the connector is in, the entire thing won't sit flat. It's OK though, it doesn't bother me. Pics coming up in a few minutes with the stain (came out OK).

I guess you could always put some decorative thing around the bottom. Maybe a little piece of thick colored acrylic cut to the shape of the base, that would look pretty schnazzy and might raise it up high enough to drill a channel out in the back for the cable
