True. A while back, I believe it was MPC that used a cheap method of pencils and 2 rubberbands (like 1/2"-1" thick) to suspend the drive in mid-air (a Raptor BTW). It was apparently incredibly quiet. But not LAN-party friendly of course.

But ghetto-rigging FTW!

Yeah strong rubberbands are OK unless you plan to keep the system like that and never replace them. Because those rubberbands will dry and eventually break.
It's true that suspended drives are really quiet, but most computer games don't really care that much about noise with their 219820820³ CFM fans.

It's not that ghetto, leaving the drive loose inside the case hanging by the cables. That's ghetto!

I believe someone wrote to MPC and suggested using some kind of rubber stud instead of rubber bands.. I can't remember what they're called though. That's what I'd look into if I was mounting my HDD in the optical bay.

I bet these will do fine as a replacement for the rubber bands.

Or you can pull some out from an old jacket/winter coat.

now that is a cool idear. You should patent it or something, think of the storage one could get like that orientation
