an idea like this is invaluable in a place like that.
I talked to my boss, and we're going to assemble something like this soon, but grounded a bit better, hehe.
a LOT of people want to see what they are paying for, so instead of ripping apart one of the rigs we use to surf the web/rent out for people to use or play CSS on, we have been taking fried parts, gluing a magnet to the back, and sticking them on the drink-cooler.

that works, but i think that your idea will take it a step further.

Good point. I do not work in one. The comp store I do deal with, built an actual bi-plane for their display. Yes it works. And you can see it work. So maybe this will shed light on how I feel.

P.S. I will take some pics next time I'm there. Bailey

I plan on devising a program in VB.NET that can produce every problem everyone has had so I can show them how to fix it.(WILL BE A MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASS)

I plan on putting a plexi-glass case over the entire thing.

I worked in PC repair, and we had a setup similar to this. They do come in very handy if you just want to test a component quickly. There are several problems with this one however. You want your components to be stable. Otherwise you will have parts falling to the floor, like already mentioned.

If you want to do this correctly you should use a sheet of plywood. Then make brackets that hold you’re PSU, and drives in place, then screw them to the plywood. Then for the MoBo you can screw standoffs into the plywood, so you can quickly swap out motherboards if you have to.

If this is for a repair shop, another suggestion would be to make one of these for each socket type that you commonly see coming into your shop. This makes testing components even easier.

It's a great Idea just needs some tweaking.

It is not a voodoo 3 3000 (though I do have one )

good Idea I should get a 4*4 sheet of plywood and glue all available sockets I have to it.

The specs are this:

CPU- AMD Athlon Slot A 650mhz
RAM- Sdram 380mb
HD - 30gb Maxtor 7200rpm drive
Sound- SB16
Ethernet- some random one (at school cannot look)
Video card-... no one will guess it so here it is 3DFX Voodoo 3500 TV
(Best tuner card ever!)

Motherboard- M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless edition
CPU- AMD X2 4200+ OC 2.6ghz
CPU cooler- Zalman CNPS 9500 LED AM2
RAM- 2g OCZ Value series DDR2 667

I think it's a cool idea you got going there! I've heard of some people running caseless, but this takes it to a whole new level. Great work!

I have to ask...what exactly is that you have on the CPU? I know...it's a heatsink...but I've never seen one quite like it. And the video card? Beats the s*** out of me! Can I still get a cookie? :eating:

Edit= oops, I just saw you told us what the card was.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

I like it! It's original, not in a case and so, it is a mod IMHO. Otherwise, why call making a Plexiglas case a mod? It's just a box with computer parts shoved in it like any other case.

Sweet folder there too! Thanks!

As far as the grounding goes, that's handled by the PSU. As long as you're plugged into a properly grounded outlet, having it on cork is no problem at all. Heck, I've seen folks use cardboard boxes for a case.

hitman, i just ran into a roflcopter while lollerskating trying to escape a lmaotank right there bud.
we see so many sockets and video cards come in it's ridiculous.
socket A, 939, LGA 775, 478, AM2...its really everything...
but my favorite is that that came in with a 33mhz celeron and wanted to run dragon naturally speaking 9.0 on it...it couldn't even decipher her thick russian accent while running on my laptop! (core duo, 1gb etc...not a pokey rig!)
