I learned this myself some years back... only connect hard drives directly from the PSU, no inbetween connectors.. had something similar happen to me some years back with my SocketA system

hmmm maybe i should rethink my fan controller molex to DVD drive approach

I know better, I was just being lazy, and didn't want to dig for main connector.
